Kokon Fujiya — Restaurant in Kyoto

A tourist trap. That’s it. So expensive for the experience we had. First of all, you have to pay extra to sit on the river bed (like all restaurants here). Keep that in mind. Secondly, the waitress did not understand our orders. This was not a language barrier. We wanted three times the same plate but she did not understand even after signing it out. As soon as I said « san » she seemed to understand? It’s as if she didn’t even try to understand us because we were speaking English. Next, the dishes were so small for the price. At least there were vegan options. The hot green tea was super sweet and sickly. You are not even served, but must go get your meal and clean up after you. Honestly not at all...

You have to pay extra for sitting on the patio.

Do not expect good food. It is ONLY for photos.

We had a weird experience as well. A staff saw us going to the patio then put a sign for reserve after we paid for sitting. Then after 15 mins they took away one of the reserved sign so that we could sign near the river. So … what’s the point? They just wanted us to wait...

Food was pretty good, but portions were small. Location is excellent and it is comparatively cheaper to other restaurants closer to kifune shrine.

That being said, we spent 2k jpy per person and walked off just slightly less hungry than when we went in.
