まっかりや — Restaurant in Makkari

My friends and I tried to get dinner here before going back to our b&b. Sadly, we never got the chance to eat because we were met with a sign saying that if you can’t speak Japanese you can’t be served. The reasoning was that they couldn’t provide good service if you couldn’t communicate.

After being here for a month, and only speaking a little Japanese, I’ve had wonderful customer service experiences with people I couldn’t always understand in detail. With google translate and a little patience and understanding from everyone involved, things actually go pretty well, if a little slower than average.
