After a gorgeous hike in Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park, we followed the fall leaves to enjoy a delicious lunch (soba) at Gamakouan and then, next door, home-roasted coffee and homemade cakes at Dog Cafe Cockapoo!
This is a family and dog-friendly cafe with a focus on sustainable practices. Kayo San, the owner, forages in woodlands and works directly with farmers to source local, seasonal ingredients. If you’ve ever baked with chestnuts, you know her fluffy chiffon and gluten-free, chestnut cakes are a labor of love. This is a wonderful cafe to spend an afternoon—relaxing and/or learning about the area and the family's legacy of promoting wellness for the community. Kayo-san, the owner have (and train) the most amazing Shiba Inu’s - the are super kawaii (Hachi and Yuki) and you can pet them all you want. They enjoy company of customers.
Sometimes she will bring her cute kitties too, most friendly cats I have ever met. Kayo-san makes fluffy chiffon cake and strawberry tarts; it will be difficult to choose.
