We happened to luck out and make it in on a day that the wait wasn't extraordinary; so I was definitely expecting to get great service and an amazing burger as so many have said they have.
Truth being that these things were just pure grease. I'm convinced the vast majority of people giving 4 and 5 star reviews have just never had or experienced a REAL burger in their lifetimes. This is not really a subjective review -- There's really a class of amazing burgers out there and unfortunately the ones in this establishment just don't cut it.
You'll find that the whole idea of "juicy" gets jumbled up as they are really just overly greasy. The "fries" were small and kinda pathetic. After we had finished our rather pricy meal (which for Okinawa is quite standard in the burger department) -- We were of course still quite hungry and ready for more food.
I'm probably more picky that a lot of people, having been a professional chef for Le Cordon Bleu over the past 30+ years -- But even my wife. MiL and kids were all really disappointed -- Particularly after seeing so many amazing reviews that would have you believe this is "THE PLACE" that you must try in Okinawa.
Indeed, if you are in Motobu -- Your options are limited. But, seriously... If you know anything about a great burger -- You'll walk away rather sad from your experience here.
On the other side of things: Parking sucks, service can be slow (although I give them higher marks for getting us in quickly) but for the money -- You may be better off "not" wanting a burger if you are up...
Read moreI enjoyed Captain Kangaroo but I didn't love it. The fries were good but basic. They were fresh but not seasoned. However, there are seasonings at the table (salt, pepper, garlic, red peppers). I got the 2x patty Bacon Burger. Was really thick, juice, cheesy, and has this delicious sauce on it that tasted just like the sauce from a big mac. Again, it had the qualities of a champion burger BUT the bacon on the burger was just a little too crispy (close to burnt) and just threw off the flavoring some. Just a slight downfall for me but nevertheless, Captain Kangaroo would be somewhere I would go again or recommend to others who are looking for a chill atmosphere and a good burger. But if you decide to go, be wary of the parking in the back (super small and not easy to get out of if its filled) and they do get a lot of service so it might be packed but no worries, theres a food truck out front that does their to go meals so you won't have to wait in...
Read moreWe say this place on the way to the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. It looked busy but interesting so we decided to stop there on the way back to Naha.
We arrived at Captain Kangaroo at 12:30 pm, parked up in the good sized car park and headed towards the restaurant only to find it was so busy you had to put your name on a reservation list, which already had about 15 names on it. Luckily they were ahead of the game enough to put a food van in their car park.
There were a few groups waiting for food and one we had placed our orders we had to wait for about 30 minutes for our burgers and fries. The guys in the food truck were fast, efficient and friendly.
The burgers, of which there were only two options were delicious. I would highly recommend stopping here to try out their burgers. Hopefully you get there at a time it is a bit quieter, however it is is still worth stopping to get a burger...
