What makes an organic food "organic" or "organic"? Does it have to be free of pesticides or chemicals? In Japan, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has established a system to inspect and certify which foods can be called "organic" or "organic". The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries' leaflet on organic food describes "organic food" as food grown in the following ways
Organic agricultural products Soil preparation with fertilizer, etc. No banned pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used for at least two years prior to sowing or planting. Harnessing the productive potential of the farmland derived from the properties of the soil Reduce the environmental impact of agricultural production as much as possible. No use of genetically modified technology. The main points of growing organic produce are not to use chemical fertilizers or banned pesticides during the soil preparation stage more than two years ago, and not to use genetically modified technology. However, the use of some pesticides is allowed, so it is not necessarily pesticide-free.
Organic livestock products Feed animals that are produced with the least possible impact on the environment. Avoid the use of veterinary drugs. Are produced from livestock and domestic animals that have been raised with consideration for their physiological and behavioral requirements. The key to raising organic livestock is to feed mainly organic produce, not to use antibiotics to prevent disease, to raise animals without stress by grazing them outdoors, and not to use genetically...
Read moreWhen I was a poor student in Chicago in the 80’s, couldn’t afford much good food, so quiche was already a much look forward treat. Especially when a fellow student or professor’s family share a homemade one. For all these decades it has a special place. While in Japan in some of the bakeries and restaurants, they serve excellently authentic French style and delicious, generally most that you find are a little lighter, but not bad.
So the surprise and great disappointment I had with this quiche and vegetable platter was quite dramatic.
The crust was dried, hard, and thick. The fillings were just a bundle of some cooked vegetables piled together, without any coherence in taste, as if they were just ladled onto the pie crust and briefly heated. Honestly I never had a pie or tart worse than this.
This mentality of cooking actually applies to the vegetable platter: a bundled of things cooked separately and pack together without any coherence, other than the flower arrangement style of presentation. And those separately cooked veggies were even decently cooked.
The piece of bread was the not even thoroughly baked, there was raw dough in the centre. It came in a ridiculous portion as well, as much as one bite.
The dessert, a brownie, was also hard and dry. And look quite awfully horrific: perhaps it’s early Halloween?
Albeit poorly prepared, the quality of the ingredients were acceptable, and the waitress was helpful and friendly. Otherwise I’d give it...
