Hamagen — Restaurant in Nagoya

I’ve been dreaming about experiencing a sushi omakase for years and in spite of my high expectations, Hamagen provided the meal of a lifetime I was hoping for. The atmosphere is impeccable, especially the gorgeous plates and bowls. The service is first-rate, with friendly and attentive staff ready to refill your tea or gari without you having to ask. My dining partner speaks some Japanese and had a pleasant conversation with one of the staff. They also had an English language drink menu and the chef had a tablet to show us names and pictures of fish he didn’t know the English name for. He also took plenty of time to chat with us (he’s humble about it but his English is very good) and showed us fantastic hospitality. The food was incredible. I was a bit nervous bringing a dining partner who doesn’t really eat sushi but they thought it was easily the best meal of their life. Highlights for me were the kisu, kinki, and shirako. まだ今だに、やっていたのか？が感想。PS愛してるで、名古屋で1番のマグロ食わす寿司屋だといわれて取材受けていた頃に訪れました。 大間で無く道側の鮪を仕入れていると言ってるくせに正直高いし、ちっともお腹膨れないし。今時マグロ1つとってもびっくりする程味の違いも無いというか想像つくし。そもそも大間か道側かなんて言われても別にどっちでも良いし。 すぐネタありきな話ばかりで、ネタが命なら職人なんかいらんやろ？が私の持論、だから和食は嫌い。コハダとかでも手が判るとか言って、そもそも寿司屋で不味いコハダの味って私は知らないし、スーパー辺りのコハダが不味いの基本なら、どこの寿司屋でも大概美味いに決まってるし。締め具合の濃さだけで好みか否かの話だし、 ツマミはしめ鯖がオススメですだとか言って、食べてみたら私には大して味も薄く美味くも無いつまみだったけど、会計には充分なパンチが1発も2発も効いていたわ。それぐらい味もパンチ聞かせろっちゅう話。スーパーのパックのトロしめ鯖の方が安くてうまいかもしれんかったと思ったわ。本当、どの貧乏舌の金持ちが持ちあげた！みたいな。寿司屋さんっていつも感じるけど、客の心理として1貫2,000円のネタ頼むとして、もし職人とツーカーにならないと少しでもネタをセコられてしまうのではないか？若しくは少しでも自分を優遇して貰え良い部位をでかく握ってくれるんじゃ無いかみたいな根性が少なからず心底にあるせいで、金持って食いに着ているのに、心理状態は真逆。時価で支払いまで総額が良くわかんないシステムだし。機嫌や態度が総額に含まれてぼったくられてないか考えさせられるし、、。 本当、自分も含め客が寿司屋を高飛車に育てている気がする。セコイ奴が行ってはダメだから私は行きません、いやセコ...

The food was delicious and it was my parents' first omakase experience. Prices were also quite reasonable for the quality of food served. I also enjoyed the drinks.
