A Taste of History with Perfect Tempura Near Obihiro Station

I visited this fantastic local restaurant, located just a short walk from JR Obihiro Station, for lunch to energize myself for the afternoon. With nearly 100 years of history, the place has a wonderfully authentic and lively atmosphere. It was bustling with a mix of Obihiro locals and tourists, which is always a great sign.

Upon entering, I was greeted with a warm and energetic welcome from the owner herself, which made for a great first impression. The staff throughout the meal were polite and seemed very comfortable serving international guests.

I ordered the Shrimp Tempura Set Meal (Ebi-ten Teishoku), which included soba noodles. The tempura was cooked to perfection – the batter was incredibly light and crispy, and the shrimp was fresh. The soba noodles were also a highlight, served in a rich and flavorful dashi broth that was absolutely delicious from the first sip to the last.

It's like enjoying tasty home cooking, all beautifully presented and served quickly within an atmosphere where the interior decor is quite charming with a hint of kitsch.

We had quite an enjoyable meal of Butadon and a Butadon set, which adds a bowl of soba noodles and side salad.

Good food and service, menu with English for us visitors. Your meal is complimented with a western uniform adorned by the friendly (and patient!) waiters. :)

Most dishes around the 1000-1500 yen mark. Western-style dishes such as spaghetti were also good! When entering they will serve you a small glass of Fanta with ice (melon flavoured) and a small glass of iced water. After your meals are served they will come by with a small cup of hot green tea.
