Flying Garden — Restaurant in Oyama

So this is my first time at one of these family style restaurants in Japan. I was recommended this place as I was leaving the area and heading back into Tokyo. It is a family style restaurant that specializes in grilled meats, though most of it in steak form. Chicken steak is one of their main dishes that they serve. They have other steaks like hamburger steak and regular beef steak. Both sound decent, but I got the chicken steak so I will focus on that for the review.

Anyways, you go in, you sit down, you order, and you can go up to the drinks counter to get a glass of the available soft drink options. Plenty of options for everyone. They got sodas, a coffee machine that can do different kinds of coffee, jars of dried teas with the usual other tools needed to brew your own tea, and the usual water and ice machine for your usual beverage.

Upon getting my food, it was still sizzling on that cast iron plate it was on. Haven't experienced something like that in a long time and oh how have I missed this. Also comes with some vegetable sides and unlimited plates of rice for your food. Yes, you heard me right. Unlimited rice. Clear your plate and they bring you some more.

Trying out what "chicken steak" is, since I have never really heard the concept of "chicken steak" outside of "chicken FRIED steak", which isn't even made of chicken anyways and is just breaded and fried beef. Nonetheless, I tried it for what it was. First bite in and it had opened a new world of food for me. Smoky, juicy, nicely cooked, flavorful, sauced up in the Japanese style sauce they have for it, and overall a different experience than the plain jane grilled chicken breasts of dinners' past. It was something else entirely, yet it is something so simple. It was good. It was amazing. It was worth the dive to try something different.

Finished that up and moved on to everything else. The sides included corn, ONE piece of broccoli (idk what to think of that but it was just too different to think about it), unlimited rice, and a few potato wedges. All of it pretty decent. Just not something to write home about and are just sides to the chicken steak.

Overall, I think it was a pretty decent place to try out and let me open my mind to more food concepts that I had never thought about. Will go back again here some day or at the other franchises...

流石に450gもあるとめちゃくちゃデカい。デカい分、ソースは和風とにんにくの２つ付いてくるので量は足りる。けど、選べるともっと良いかなぁ、和風2個とか。にんにく食べたくない人はある一定数いると思うので。頼めば出来るかもなので、オーダーの時に言ってみてください。 ハンバーグが分厚い分、オススメのミディアムではなくレアな部分が多くなってしまいます。私はレアでも気にしませんが、気になる人は熱い鉄板をもう一個もらわないとミディアムで楽しむのは難しそうです。
