They serve up a wide variety of noodles and several types of ramen. While normally this would be a red flag as that means the restaurant has to prepare multiple broths and they may lack a noodle specialty, I found that the huge bowl of ramen I served to be surprisingly enjoyable.
For those unfamiliar, this is often called "Jiro-style," which is an absurdly large portion of ramen topped with a hilarious mountain of soybean sprouts, famous from the chain of Jiro ramen restaurants in Tokyo. I don't particularly like Jiro style, as it typically just means heavy, oil-laden ramen with toppings for the sake of having a ton of toppings... quality be damned. I took the plunge and asked for the "Special Portion." The waiter looked at the cook, the cook sized me up and down and gruffed, "Can you finish it?" I replied affirmatively, and he laughed. What was I in for...?
As the waiter brought over the mountain of food (and a side bowl) and placed it on the counter, the other patrons giggled. Could I conquer the mess in front of me?
You bet I could. The amount of food was easily two servings of ramen at any other restaurant; for the naysayers, the mountain was definitely not all soybean sprouts. A few slices of deliciously fatty chashu, flavorful (but overcooked) egg, fresh garlic topping, pepper, and a solid, rich broth made consuming it all rather easy. I will admit it was a bit greasy going down, but overall, it was actually quite good. And the value made it unbeatable.
