留萌蛇の目寿司本店 — Restaurant in Rumoi

A hidden gem in the town of Rumoi. Almost missed it bec of the opening hours starting from 5pm. So glad we persisted.

They served “omakase” in May and it was a beautiful 9 course meal featuring all the local produce. Every dish was set on pretty serving plates that makes the meal even more enjoyable.

Especially love the squid grilled with garlic sauce. The tuna was so good and sweet (something I won’t eat back home).

We also had a 17 variety sashimi don and each slice was a delight as we taste the freshness of the produce. The chawamunshi was the best I ever had. It had morsel of moochi that blended so well with the umami taste. Splendid!

The server was a friendly chap who spoke good English. Knew we were in a hurry and he sped up the service....

It's a well-known restaurant in the area so it's busy with both local customers and tourists, myself included. The ingredients are fresh which is the most aspect for seafood. There are lunch sets which are slightly more expensive than other restaurants but they are worth the value. One of the great things about the restaurant is that it was flexible partitions so you can get some privacy no matter the number of customers. Stopped on our way up to Wakkanai and was very pleasantly surprised. The staff was kind and accommodating considering we collectively spoke about 6 words of Japanese between the three of us. The food was very reasonably priced and delicious. Beautifully presented. The atmosphere inside was surprisingly pleasant considering the neighbourhood that it’s situated in looks...
