We had absolutely amazing sushi at this restaurant. We got the recommendation from Kato Restaurant across the street when they couldn't seat us, and the local recommendation couldn't be better. Let's hear it for local knowledge. A word of warning, there was absolutely no English support at this restaurant, we had someone who could speak some rudimentary Japanese and were able to stumble through the process of ordering. They were willing to accommodate us stumbling through the order, and gave us both incredibly kind service and absolutely amazing sushi. They also had a display of the seafood out at the bar, if you can identify what you're looking at they were willing to let you gesture, but I'd still recommend some knowledge of Japanese.
Specifically the Futo, fat tuna, and whatever they served us as an appetizer were well received by our group, but almost everything was great. Notably, two of our party were not big fans of seafood, but it was so fresh and delicious that even they were won over. If i could rate the food a 6 I would.
The restaurant itself was small, maybe 3 tables for four and 6 bar stools, it was quaint but a culturally authentic experience. I cannot give higher marks on how nice and personable the service was, going so far as to show us interesting landmarks to visit on our trip.
An absolutely amazing experience that I'd recommend to anyone with the ability to make it through the process of ordering with at least broken Japanese.
Overall I'm giving this the strongest recommendation i can, but with the caveat that English...

At first, we weren’t even sure the restaurant was open. The floor mat in front of the main door was folded over and messy, and only a faint light peeked through the door. We were hesitant to go in, especially after reading the mixed reviews about the place being owned and operated by an elderly couple. Cleanliness was a concern for us, but our son was eager for sushi, so we decided to give it a shot.
And we’re so glad we did. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted warmly and immediately felt their deep passion for seafood and sushi. They shared with us books on sushi traditions, fishing stories, and more, making the experience educational as well as delicious.
We started with oysters, which were absolutely amazing. The recommended sushi platter was next, featuring “toro,” a fatty tuna cut that melted in our mouths. We also tried the mackerel “battera,” a marinated sushi with pressed rice, shiso leaves, and kombu. It was simply outstanding.
We highly recommend this place, and urge you to look past the initial appearance. Once you’re inside, you’ll experience some of the best sushi and...
Read moreNot only was the sushi delicious (super fresh fish and the rice was so sweet) the other patrons are so friendly they mailed people they knew nearby who speak English and made them come immediately to be translators! Also one gentleman seated at the counter spoke some English and was shyly translating for us initially and insisted on shaking hands before we left.
You also know the food is amazing when the farmer who supplies the rice dines there, and the chef himself is an avid fisherman (couldn’t quite catch if he catches the fish himself but they pointed to a painting behind the counter of a fish he’d caught before).
All in all, an amazingly local experience in every sense of the word (one of the locals advised its a ‘regulars only’ joint so as soon as we walked in they knew which hotel we were from) - plus incredibly affordable prices. Absolutely going back before we leave...
