Sandaya Honten, Yasuraginosato — Restaurant in Sanda

My 2nd visit to Sandaya Honten and it certainly didn't disappoint. It was a birthday lunch for my mother-in-law and the staff were wonderful, even arranging for the pianist to sing Happy Birthday with all the staff joining in. 😊 Most haven't heard of Sanda beef: it's wonderful. Here it comes to you raw on a hot plate and then you move it around the plate or on to the vegetables so that you get the cook that you want. Even if you manage to overcook it, the meat is still soft and juicy. The price might seem high (¥9,900 for 180g) but it includes all sides and dessert so worthwhile given the quality. The venue is also very spacious. If you want to splurge on a meal in Japan, this is a good place...

This is one of the most famous restaurants in Sanda. The service is excellent and the facilities are amazing.

The beef and ham are consistently delicious. This truly is a wonderful restaurant, and I have enjoyed every visit. I have updated my review to 5 stars. (Originally I gave 4 stars because I felt the prices were high, but my opinion now is that this restaurant is worth the price and deserves a visit.)

30数年前、まだ新婚当時に初めて訪れた。能舞台もあり、当時でも異色の店舗だった。おいしい食事が終わり、勘定しようとすると、財布を二人とも（！？）忘れたことに気が付いた。恥ずかしながら、事情を話すと、「構いません。郵送して下されば結構です。」とのこと。こちらの恥ずかしさを考慮してのさりげない優しさが有り難かった。速やかに送付したところお礼のお電話を頂いた。それ以降あちらこちらの店舗を訪れて、東京のお客様も北野坂にあった店舗にお連れした。創業者が早くにお亡くなりになり、必ずしも当時は右肩上がりにはならなかったようだが、若き日の恥ずかしくも嬉しい記憶だ。いまでもギフトで送り、そしてギフトで頂くと、ハムの味そしてドレッシングの味わいに、当時を懐かしく思うときがある。三田屋のロースハムと共に、甘みのある淡路島の玉ねぎを食す、そこにハム用ドレッシングをかけると至福のひと時である。

I visited for the first time 30 years ago, when I was still newlyweds. There was also a Noh stage, and it was a unique store even at that time. Just send it by mail." I was grateful for the casual kindness in consideration of my embarrassment. She promptly sent it and received a phone call thanking her. After that, I visited stores here and there, and even took customers from Tokyo to the store in Kitanozaka. The founder passed away early on, so it doesn't seem like things were going well at the time, but it's an embarrassing but happy memory of his young days. Even now, when I send it as a gift, and when I receive it as a gift, I sometimes feel nostalgic for the taste of the ham and the dressing.
