This place makes a specialty curry using squid ink as a base ingredient. It sounds crazy, but it is absolutely delicious. The squid ink gives the curry a black appearance, and you can specify your level of spice heat. Prices are reasonable.

長崎県佐世保市の下京町にある、カレー＆手作りケーキの店『ブラック』。 ハッキリした創業年はよくわからないのですが、オープンから40年以上は経つ老舗のようです。 こちらのお店、なんと驚くことにオープンからずっと24時間営業を続けているとか。 オープン当時は24時間営業のお店もそんなに多くなかったと思いますし、今でもチェーン店以外の飲食店ではかなり珍しい存在。 基本は喫茶店としてがメインのようですが、朝はモーニング、夜は居酒屋としても使えるお店とのこと。 店名の「ブラック」というのは、おそらく看板メニューである『ブラックカレー』が由来と思われます。 このブラックカレー、牛肉や野菜などで作ったビーフカレーをベースに、朝市で仕入れる佐世保西海で採れた生きたイカのイカスミを加えて作るそうです。 なんでもイカスミリゾットをヒントに作ったオリジナルメニューだとか。 真っ黒のビジュアルだけでも個性的なカレーなのですが、「佐世保で一番辛いカレー」を掲げるほど激辛なのも大きな特徴。 水なしで5皿を20分以内に完食することで無料になるというチャレンジもあるとか。 気になって食べてみたかったものの、私は辛いものに弱いので、1皿すら食べ切れる自信がありません。
