Fuji Sushi (Shakotan Honten) — Restaurant in Shakotan

Shakotan(積丹) is one of the most famous spot for sea urchin in Hokkaido, and only during June to August that fisherman is allowed to catch sea urchin.

As I am a fan of bafun uni(red sea urchin馬糞海膽), I visited Shakotan during late June. Most of the restaurants here serve murasaki uni(北紫海膽), but not many of them serve bafun, normally sold out very early in the day before the restaurant opens. Luckily I can enjoy my favourite bafun uni don in this restaurant, though the price is definitely not cheap, but it worths! Perhaps due to the restaurant is pricy, service here is great and environment is comfortable. Shakotan is known for sea urchin so of course I came to try for myself! TLDR: if you love sushi and seafood like me, come right now!

I ordered the triple mini bowl set. There was a tuna bowl, salmon roe bowl, and a sea urchin bowl. The seafood was extremely fresh, but didn’t taste like the sea, or in other words, no “fishiness” at all! The sea urchin was so soft, fluffy, and tasty! The portion was perfect, the temperature of the rice was just right - very delicious!

I think this is the first time I’ve seen other customers in the store nodding (a lot) while eating! Very glad that I wasn’t the only one who loved it!

Like all my reviews it’s just a random restaurant that we drove past on the road trip. The place is very nice on the inside, with lots of rooms and seats for everybody. The sushi bar right in front and a cool pond on the side. Service was excellent they always check on you. Food was excellent, so fresh and delicious.
