South Cafe — Restaurant in Shimoda

This place is amazing! A five star experience for sure! I ordered the French toast and an avocado smoothie and I about died and went to heaven! I also tried my friends beet smoothie and it was so good!!! And super reasonably priced! Usually when traveling to another country, I try to stick to their cuisine however there didn’t happen to be a lot of places open at the time of year we went so we decided we would try south cafe! I’m so happy we did! It has such a cute atmosphere and the food is a 10/10! I highly recommend if you are staying or even just passing...

Turned away as soon as we walked in despite open seating. We rode the bus out from Shirahama to try their cafe based on a recommendation and were quite taken back. We were with 2 small children and not even offered a seat to wait out the rush; we would have been more than happy to hang tight before ordering if the kitchen was just slammed. Instead we wound up back in the heat and rain with no where to go until the next bus arrived 25min later....

Wonderful food in a small cozy corner cafe setting. Nice beach “Shimoda feel”. Food is truly outstanding, price is great and comes fast which is awesome together with the quality and nice ambience. Can’t go wrong.

Worth giving 5 stars especially with the generous homemade apple pie and ice cream at only 400 yen. My wife and my “go to” spot in Shimoda for lunch.
