Country Kitchen Doroko — Restaurant in Shimogo

On a motorcycle tour in the area and realized I needed to eat, this restaurant was nearby so I popped in for lunch. Only one other diner was there at the time.

One thing I would like to clarify is: the "burger" is not a hamburger as I have traditionally understood it. The burger here consists of: —homemade bun (good) —Japanese-style bacon (okay) —house-made sauce wrapped in lettuce (good) Overall, a nice sandwich, on the lighter side, but I would not call this a burger.

I also ordered a side of cole slaw, which was excellent.

Decor is varied and eccentric, the owner is a potter by trade and her work, as well as many American-themed tchotchkes, decorates the space. It feels like you're in someone's living room, which is okay.

I loved this place, full of knickknacks from a life fully lived she and her husband were potters from Tokyo until he died. The burgers were unique and beautifully smokey, not patties but thin meat, chips and slaw were delicious!! Come and support this...

Great place to pop by after a short stroll nearby. The restaurant specialize in smoked products. Must try the smoked soy sauce with fries !
