Indeed a cheerful old man runs this place. We walked in and without asking, he immediately served us the crab rice set – just 500 yen each, which was a pleasant surprise. Some people call the place messy with lots of old things lying around, but I see it more as his hobby of collecting furniture and items from the past, which actually adds to the charm.
While we were eating, a local customer also came in, and we caught the smell of firewood – perhaps from the wood he collects being used for cooking. The crab rice was a little on the salty side, but tasty, and the miso soup with mushrooms was fresh and comforting.
