This restaurant is fantastic. The food here is simple yet delicious and very hearty. I actually accidentally stumbled here when trying to find parking for Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine. An older gentleman directed me towards the restaurant where his son (who spoke English) helped direct me to the shrine and even allowed us to park in their lot despite not eating there.

We did end up eating there however after a relaxing yet challenging climb up Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine. The food was incredible. The trout sashimi was one of best freshwater fish sashimis I have ever tried and the roasted taro and trout were amazing. This restaurant is a MUST if you are visiting Kyushu. The food, ambience, and views of the mountain are incomparable to anywhere else I have visited. The owner (3rd generation) and his family are also incredibly kind and welcoming and I would visit again in...

A must-visit in the area. Multi-generational family run traditional Japanese barbecue place, where you sit on the floor in one of their large, open, light-filled rooms, and admire the amazing caligraphy and photos of past visitors hanging on the walls (including many famous people) as you wait for your food to do the cooking in the bbq-pit in front of you.

The owner could not be more welcoming or kinder, speaks fantastic English (and Mandarin, we noticed), and looked after us like family, telling us about the history of the restaurant and many of the visitors who have come over the years.

The food by the way was also excellent, especially the sausage which reminded me of home :)

We used their private parking when visiting and waited 10 minutes to be seated during a weekday lunch.

An amazing...

We were hosted by the 3rd generation owner of the restaurant who taken us by surprise that he spoke mandarin. He learnt it while he was studying in Taiwan. The restaurant and the building has been around for more than 100 years old, his grandfather first started the restaurant. They serve very traditional Japanese food as shown in the photos, variety of skewers were grilled over the charcoal by stabbing the sticks on sand. You can order an individual set platter which consist of a fish, konyak with pepper, tofu, taro, 3 pcs fried beancurd, rice and miso soup. Their tender chicken and pork skewers are also...
