Seaside cafe Gakiya. — Restaurant in Tokashiki

Would strongly advise against going here and instead pack yourself a lunch and some drinks to have in a cold bag on the beach as there are little other options except the hotel. The man who runs this place is very rude, quite horrible at times and creepy. Unsure if he dislikes tourists or if this is his general attitude towards everyone - he ignores customers trying to order food, was obstructive to us renting a sun shade (unfortunately his shop is the only place you can rent one from), he also made inappropriate comments to me whilst I was on the beach in swimwear.

His colleague also seemed to make up prices for an extra sun bed etc much more than Aharen beach, when we returned another day the prices were different- we felt very ripped off.

The only unpleasant people we have met during our whole trip were associated with this place. I hope things improve but I strongly recommend against visiting unless things change. Pack your own lunch/ head down to Aharen to the many other accommodating and pleasant locals who will...

I wanted to rent a snorkel and was told that I also need to rent the fins and life jacket, which I didn't plan to (and did not need snorkeling outside the surveillance area anyways. The personnel bareky spoke English and was not friendly at all. They first mentioned a price (1500 Yen for the set) and then said there is actually a certain tax on top (+150 Yen). They were not customer oriented, when I had issues to choosing a mask that fits my european nose and stressing me to take just one (no one else was waiting) saying they are all one size. There were different models though. Once I arrived at the beach I saw that the fins were actually broken and the mask quality was very bad. I had planned to come in, use the toilet then relax in the cafe and order food and a drink. But the staff chased me away from the toilet loudly saying “no no no no no!! ¥500!” then i asked if I can order something in the cafe, he said it’s still a separate ¥500 fee to use the toilet even if I am a customer at the cafe. What a turnoff. Too bad, I was excited to come here....
