We had breakfast here during our first day in Oshima. I got their Chocolate Donut with Custard Filling and it was absolutely delicious. Not too sweet like desserts tend to be in Tokyo city nowadays.
The chocolate and the custard managed to balance themselves in order to create a perfect combination, sweet but not too sweet. I want to eat it again!
EDIT. Funnily enough in the end we had breakfast/a snack here everyday, so after trying quite some options, I have a better perspective on their pastries.
From my favourite one to my least favourite one: Chocolate Donut with Custard Filling: pic I, my first choice, as already mentioned probably the best pastry I had at Chalon.
Chou Crème: pic II, it's a little pastry filled with French Crème, quite good, it's kinda similar to some pastries we have in Italy, I liked the nostalgic taste.
Montblanc: pic II, not bad, I'm not a Montblanc person, I usually get it once a year or something like that. It was okay, but not as flavourful as I would have liked it.
ChocoPan: no pic, I got it from the 自動販売機 outside the store. The sweet bread was quite good, but on the other hand the filling tasted more like cocoa whipped cream rather than chocolate 😅
Izu Oshima Baumkuchen: pic I, my friend had it and she wasn't particularly satisfied as she mentioned that it was aesthetically pleasing but quite tasteless.
Murasaki Iro Montblanc: pic II, as you know Fall is Sweet Potato season so of course I had to try this one. I was filled with expectations which were not really met. There was a small bit of sweet potato inside the pastry but not enough to make me appreciate it.
Overall I think their standard, cream or Custard based, pastries are quite good, but I wouldn't get again the fancier looking ones. But I'm also aware that this is more of a Japan thing and less of a Chalon thing.
Another thing I should mention is that sometimes when we eat it they would give us paper plates wish I think isn't particularly environmental friendly.
Nevertheless thank you for having so many interesting options, wish you guys...
