Tokyo's hottest ramen shop of 2024, so another opportunity to train for the line waiting olympics.

Chilly Tuesday in Jan, arrived roughly 2hrs before opening and was 9th in line. At opening time, about 40 people were waiting. Shop seems to turn the 7 seat counter every 25-30min, so it doesn't seem like a ton of time is saved by showing up early.

Start of the line actually begins across the street in a vestibule type area, not in front of the shop. Everybody sits there silently trying to pass the time. There are a couple ramen magazines in a box for reading material.

The chukasoba is very good. Can clearly taste the fish in the stock, and the temperature and textures of all the elements were just about perfect, even as the bowl cooled down. The "もちもち" wonton are incredibly good and have addictive texture and ginger flavor. If I went back, I'd probably add a side order of these.

The curry rice looks unassuming but has good flavor and goes quite well on the side with the ramen.

As with any place that has won so many awards, it's highly subjective whether a 2 hour wait is worth it. But I can definitely understand...

They are the 1st place Winner of this year’s TRY ramen awards I have been meaning to visit this place for a while.

I arrived at the store around 10am (they open at 11am) and there were already 40 people in front of me. They do have a well organized line as well as a small waiting space across the street. It takes around an hour for every 20 person that’s in front of you.

The couple that run this shop are very friendly and you can just tell they’re nice people that enjoy making good ramen.

As for the food itself, I have been visiting most of the top ranking ramen places that are on Tabelog and I would say the Shoyu ramen here is in a class of its own. The noodle texture, consistency as well as the subtle flavored incorporated into the soup are worth the wait.

2024년 한해 가장 뜨거운 인기를 얻은 도쿄의 라멘집이 어딜까 하면 저는 단연 나츠야노츄카소바를 뽑습니다. 많이 보셨을 라멘 잡지인 라멘 워커 도쿄 2025와 TRY 라멘 대상 24-25의 잡지의 양쪽 표지를 모두 이 라멘집이 장식하고 있으면서 TRY에선 신점부문 1위의 영예를 얻기도 했죠. 물론 잡지가 모든 걸 대표할 수는 없다지만 다수의 취향이나 어떤 트렌드가 반영된다는 점에선 이곳이 많은 사람들에게 사랑을 받는 인기점이라는 건 알 수 있을 것입니다.

그만큼이나 웨이팅이 살벌한 곳입니다. 지금은 주말이나 축일에는 정리권제를 하고 있고, 평일에는 따로 명부 작성 없이 그냥 무작정 대기하는 시스템입니다. 오픈 전 두 시간여 부터 생긴다고 하니 정말 작정하고 가셔야 합니다. 저는 평일에 갔는데 제가 간 날인 1월 22일이 하필 딱 1주년인 날이라 단골 손님분들이 전부 오신 것 같더라구요. 그래서 예상했던 것보다 더 길었습니다. 웨이팅 방식이 좀 독특해 미리 보고 가시는 걸 추천드립니다. 웨이팅은 두 조로 구성되는데, 가게 앞과 맞은편의 무슨 자전거 주차장? 같은 장소 두 곳입니다.

주차장 안쪽이 우선이고, 가게쪽이 다음입니다. 대기하는 순서는 올려주신 그림을 보시는 게 빠를 것 같아요. 오른쪽부터 U자로 채워주신 다음에 가게 앞에선 역J자로 서시면 됩니다. 말로 하려니 좀 복잡하네요. 대기하고 있으면 스태프 분이 직접 나오셔서 하나하나 알려 주십니다. 무척 친절하고 상냥하신 분이라 물어보시면 됩니다. 그렇게 의자에 앉게 돼 앞에까지 오면 앉아있는 순서대로 4번까지 식권을 발매하러 들어갔다 다시 나오시면 됩니다. 식권 발매를 하신 뒤엔 왼쪽에 있는 고무줄에다가 번호 순서대로 끼워 놓고 나가서 다시 대기하다 불러 주시면 들어가시면 됩니다.

츠케소바도 있는데 저는 가장 가격대가 높은 츄카소바만 했습니다. 모찌모찌란 이름이 귀엽네요. 카레도 할까 했는데 따로 하진 않았습니다. 대신 멘마와 김을 추가했습니다. 한 두시간 잡고 왔는데 세시간이 좀 넘어갔습니다. 일부러 다른 곳에서 하나 먹고 오길 무척 잘했네요. 가시는 분들도 웬만하면 그냥 한 곳 들렀다 가신 다음에 12시 쯤에 서시는 걸 추천드립니다. 한 1시쯤인가 그때 오시는 분에 딱 마감으로 끝나더라구요. 영업은 2시 반까지긴 한데 맨 마지막 손님이 드실 때까지 쭉 합니다.

앉아서 라멘을 기다리니 나오네요. 추가 멘마는 따로 접시에 담아 주십니다. 특제라 그런 것도 있지만 담아내는 스타일상 돈부리가 풍성하게 꽉 찬 느낌입니다. 완탕의 크기도 큼직하고 넓은데 갯수도 많아서 더 두툼하게 느껴지네요. 국물은 무척 맛있습니다. 니보시 향이 살짝 들어가 있는 은은하고 세련된 쇼유라멘 생각하시면 됩니다. 니보시를 생각하고 가시면 실망하실 수 있겠지만 그러지 않다면 즐겁게 드실 수 있을 맛있는 라멘이였습니다. 면 삶기도 꼬득하고 윤기 흘러 좋더라구요.

올라가는 토핑은 대단히 맛있었습니다. 모찌모찌라는 이름에 걸맞게 쫀득한 완탕은 그 안에 생강이 들어가 있는 건가 시원한 느낌도 나던데 크기도 양도 모두 좋더라구요. 지금까지 먹어 본 라멘집 완탕 중에 여기가 제일 맛있었습니다. 차슈는 종류가 다른 게 들어가는데 약간 분홍빛이 나는 것보다는 좀 하얀 빛을 머금은 차슈가 더 좋았습니다. 물론 둘 다 맛있어요. 계란도 참 좋고 김도 좋습니다. 멘마가 무척 맛있더라구요! 근데 이거 차게 별도로 나오는 게 더 맛있었습니다. 맥주 안주로 딱 좋을 것 같은 느낌이였습니다. 굳이 따지자면 고사리라고 해야하나 싶은데요.

맛있게 잘 먹었습니다. 여기 스태프 분께서 무척 친절하세요. 그냥 친절한 게 아니라 단골 분들과의 대화나 응대, 유쾌하고 상냥하면서도 예의바르고 깔끔하면서 호방하면서도 차분하신 접객이였습니다. 라멘 자체도 물론 훌륭합니다만 왜 이 곳이 인기를 얻고 단골을 많이 잡았고, 여러 잡지의 라멘에서 추앙을 받고 있는지에 대해 큰 공이 접객이 아닐까 싶었습니다. 본받고 싶은 식이였어요. 말씀을 드리진 못했지만 1주년 축하드립니당! 기념비적인 곳에 온 것 같아...
