Chinese Raku — Restaurant in Uruma

One of Japan’s underrated pleasures: zoning laws that don’t strictly segregate betw residential and commercial areas. Walking through the back streets and alleyways of an old Uruma community…and I run into hair salons, a bakery, massage centers, restaurants, and takeout joints. Even a Family Mart kombini, which is close to a local middle school.

China Shokudou Raku is the old-school kind of ramen-ya every neighborhood should have. Solid (not great) ramen set choices for lunch, served with tori no karaage or gyoza, and a small bowl of rice. Other ramen choices incl. gomoku and mapotofu. Western-style tables at which to sit, as well as small tatami rooms. Friendly owner, fast service, and cheap…cash only. A great Japanese-chinese restaurant! You can't beat the amount of food and quality for the price. Everything I had here was good and I'd recommend it to anyone who has a hunger for Chinese food.

Parking is across the street and there are four spots I believe. But we asked if street parking was ok and they said yes. But park in the actual spots...
