Iso no Kaori — Restaurant in Yakushima

Possibly the best restaurant of Yakushima. A tiny bit pricier than others but well worth it. Be sure to book in the morning for dinner.

This place is originally a sushi restaurant and the sushi are great, are all from local fish.

We had flying fish. If you don't like sorting bones, go for the karaage (deep fried nuggets). The tempura of sweet potato was great too.

Drinks are good. You can drink tankan liquor, a local citrus, very light, beer, sake and soft drinks or passion fruits-based drinks (local speciality).

The service was one of the best I had. The young lady who served us was bubbly, smily and helpful.

We passed this place twice mid-week and it was always full of locals, so that speaks words as to the quality. There are both tables and japanese style tatami.

This place is a bit frustrating. We came for lunch and the taisho told us they weren't serving lunch that day. He told us they would be open from 17:00 and to come back.

The sushi here was great. Especially the squid was so tender, I've never tasted such a delicious one before. We got a place on the tatami mats, so the atmosphere was nice and authentic. The prices are higher than in other sushi restaurants, but its totally understandable. It's so fresh, some of the fish is even catched by the staff themselves and prepared as catch of the day.
