We booked a table, primarily because we heard the manager had a new dog which we very much wanted to see. Unfortunately, the dog was not around. However, that is not why we were very disappointed with our visit. Firstly, the waiter could not find our booking and questioned if it could be in a different name, which it was not. He then said, never mind, he had room for us. We chose to eat inside, which was empty. We started with drinks which i guess were average, the taste of the vodka was more in my imagination than in the glass, perhaps this is normal practice but at over £5 a glass i would hope to taste it. The taste did not improve after 2 more! My partner had a starter of coquille st Jacques which he felt had been microwaved as it was hot on the outside but cold in the middle. He should have sent it back but he didn't want to make a fuss at this point and he said the taste itself was ok and he was hungry. The mains were ok altho i agreed to the offer of extra coconut milk but again there was no taste of coconut to suggest it had been added. I wanted it very mild as spiced food gives me stomach pain. It tasted ok, but not what i asked for and as suspected, chronic stomach pain occurred in the night. My partner has a sizzling dish, which he said was good and it sizzled for an exceptionally long time. Before, and once during the main course we asked for a round of drinks, when the waitress bought it the first time she put them as far away from us as was possible, the second time, she put them a little closer but the wrong way round. This is the difference between service and good service. We ordered deserts. There was no option to have either ice cream or dreadful squirty cream with the cheesecake, it just came with that awful squirty stuff. Real cream or even long life cream would be more acceptable. My partner asked for custard with his sticky toffee pudding but as with a chain of pubs, there is not the option of opening a perfectly good tin of devon custard when asked for. (So far only one pub we have been too offers custard!) He had to have ice cream. We were not even asked if the cream and ice cream should be left off. We asked for a tia maria liquor coffee to be bought over just after we received dessert, the waiter bought over 2 cups of coffee and 2 glasses of tia maria. This we sent back and he said he would get the professional on the job. The tia maria coffee arrived, with it was a spoon that if you used it to stir, you would burn your fingers. We took a sip and there was no sugar in it, so we did our best to stir without mixing the dreadful squirty cream but there was NO sugar. We asked for sugar. We were bought 2 little sachets each which had apparently been out in the rain or something as it was rock hard. We hoped that a meagre amount of sugar may help but without any exaggeration, this had to be the most disgusting thing we have ever had the misfortune to taste. It was VERY bitter, no sugar, then substandard sugar, dreadful squirty stuff very, little tia maria and a spoon that was too short. If it had been made professionally, the sugar would have been added and stirred before the (preferrably) real cream added to the top thus eliminating the need for a spoon totally. On paying the bill, we were not asked if everything was ok, perhaps if they had, this review may have been different. Sadly, we were very disappointed and have decided not to return for a...
Read moreWhat we didn’t know on booking was that the Moulin de Lecq had only been open for a couple of days having been closed for 6 months. As they were just getting to grips with new staff and a new menu, they hadn’t advertised the reopening just yet and so we were the only guests for our evening meal, which we all agreed was absolutely superb! (Another reason for the lack of guests was that it was the Saturday of the Jubilee weekend and the road leading to Greve de Lecq from St Ouen was closed ( We walked down) Despite the lack of guests, the friendly staff, lovely atmosphere and amazing ‘olde worlde’ setting more than made up for ‘just us’ as guests. Our food was scrumptious with a wide range of choices including excellently cooked pub grub and more ‘restaurant style’ seafood etc. Good value too! Another reason for our delight in this venue was the ‘above and beyond service’ of all the staff, which was quite...
Read moreI have been to this pub quite a few times. Some visits have been fine, but on numerous occasions I have found the staff (the owners, I think) to act in a rather resentful or obstructive way. The most recent incident was when I tried to buy drinks for my group and was asked to provide Track & Trace info. That is fine, but since I do not use a mobile phone, I normally fill in a paper record. I was told that I could not do that because "they did things right". It's the first time I have encountered an establishment in Jersey that does not have a paper record, and it seemed to me that the manageress took far too much pleasure in denying us service. I checked the Jersey rules for businesses and there is nothing obligatory about using an App to keep T&T records. I guess it is just too much effort for them to provide a notebook. I do not think they are the right sort of people for a...
