Unfortunately, our experience at this restaurant was quite disappointing. Despite the negative reviews mentioning rude servers we decided to give it a chance. However, upon arriving on a lazy Saturday evening without a reservation, we were given the worst seating arrangement next to the boundary, far from the scenic areas. It was frustrating to see that only a few white customers received a warmer welcome and were seated at the premium tables, while we were left feeling neglected. Given the poor treatment, we decided to order only starters, which turned out to be quite underwhelming. The shrimp in salt and pepper and calamari fritto were mostly boiled shrimp and deep-fried calamari without any batter, lacking any real flavor. Furthermore, the food was served in a bowl with a broken corner, and the quantity was significantly smaller compared to other restaurants in the area. To make matters worse, the happy hour cocktails were priced at 1000 KES, which we found to be quite expensive, especially considering that there were better options along the beach with a better view and priced significantly lower at 750 KES or lower. In short, we regret not considering the negative reviews beforehand and deciding to dine at this restaurant. We hope that others will heed our warning and avoid making the same mistake. A single bad experience can indeed ruin one's vacation, and we wish we had chosen a different...

Doesn't even deserve a one star.. What a disappointment since ownership changed... The lady who owns it was behind the bar the entire time, we ordered papadams as a starter it was one burnt piece the size of a quarter plate for 500ksh..in the supermarket one can buy a packet of 10for less than that.. One family member ordered the so called lamb bbq special which was fattty, tough chewy and hardly any meat on it for an outrageous 2500ksh...my fish was basic, prawns were actually tiny shrimp in heavy thick masala, portions were tiny, we had solar cheap lights on the table as opposed to candles or proper lights. Owner went to a table chit chatting away avoiding our table knowing that we were disappointed. I waited to voice my disappointment and shock but she did not even bother to acknowledge my existence.... It is criminal to charge customers those prices for what we are served.. I will never ever go there and I will make sure I advise anyone else not to go.. Just today a few ladies asked me where they should dine and I insisted that they avoid pilipan at all costs..shame...

Good selection of drinks and cocktails but don’t go there for food. Maybe it was just the day we went but they did not have much available on their menu as most things were out of stock. Tried to order paneer but wasn’t available so went for butter chicken however they didn’t have naan either?! There were also a number of other times on their menu not available. But based on the food we did get - their specials for the day, the chickpea and butternut squash curry was too sweet and their garlic prawns were less than impressive. The calamari wasn’t amazing either. Sorry, but I really wanted this place to be good but it...

Beautiful views across the lake from either the table seating or terraces make this spot great for sunsets, plus a fabulous range of cocktails and light bites. Sadly they'd run out of prawns the night we visited, but the crab tacos were fresh, zingy and delicious! My daughter tried the tuna tartare and sticky pork ribs with potato wedges (they were so good, the ones she couldn't finish came home). The staff were friendly and were happy to accommodate any requests - would love to go again to try the prawns!

We are British Nationals living in Kenya, currently on holiday at Watamu. We booked a table for 2 at Pilipan, July 2021, as a holiday treat and were not disappointed. Beautiful setting (see photo), very friendly staff, gorgeous food, good, efficient service and very fair prices. 2 course meal with wine for ca £40. Would definitely recommend and, if we visit Watamu again, we will return to this restaurant.
