Floating Island Restaurant — Restaurant in Junda ward

We visited this restaurant on the back of reveiws from tiktok and Instagram.

When ordering we asked questions in relation to what we were ordering and what each plate was served with. We waited 40 minutes for our order to arrive even though the restaurant was very quiet.

On receiving our plates we immediately complained about portion size and missing items from our plates and a wrong item in one of our plates . We waited half an hour for someone to come to us to address our complaints all the time our food was getting colder.

We eventually took the drastic steps to bring our plates to the manager and informed her we were unhappy with what we were served and were not paying for such small and incomplete plates. The manager then turned to a loud abusive threatening behaviour and even accused us of been illiterate and not been able to read the menu.

We asked to see the chef and when he eventually arrived he sat with us listened to our complaints and was gobsmacked to hear we had not eaten yet. The chef agreed to reheat our food but instead cooked us an entirely fresh meal with good size portions complete plates and agreed dessert was on the house.

Without the intervention of the chef we don't know how the evening would have ended. We felt the manager was threatening us with security or heavy men without addressing the real issue of poor service and dealing with customer complaints.

Well, this is not a place I would recommend or go back unless it’s a date and just want to spend the evening drinking a milkshake. I went with my family and we waited and waited before we received any service or food. No one welcomed us, we had to find our way down to the sitting area, which was many stairs down. It was a lot of stairs. Two servers serving 10 tables although it wasn’t busy, yet the service was super slow. Our drinks came after 40 minutes and food after 1.5 hours. The glasses were not sanitized and I drank the water from the bottle itself. The drinks had a straw. It was so hot as there was no breeze, 3-4 fans which didn’t help at all. The waiters were trying but running up and down the stairs was definable taking a toll on them. The food was okay. Whatever we ordered, they were out of 50% of what we ordered, it was the same with the drinks. We went to this restaurant yesterday after seeing Mombasa tiktokers advertising it. Unfortunately we had a very bad experience.

The manager has zero managerial and hospitality skills. When given an escalating situation she escalates it even more infornt of other customers and creates a scene. She needs more training of dealing with customer complaints. She goes ahead intimidating and threatening customers.

The waiters gave us wrong information about both our meals. I think they need product knowledge of what they are selling to customers. Food takes long and in a case of complaints, no one will attend to you. My husband had to take the food back to the counter after half an hour of nobody addressing the wrong order.

The only sane person was the chef. He is trained and professional and even though tired, he listens and understands the issue and explains to the customer.
