Haru Karen – where my taste buds packed their bags and moved in permanently.

First of all, if you’ve never been to Haru, let me ask you nicely but firmly… Why are you playing yourself? This place is a quiet bombshell. Hidden in Karen like a secret only foodies are allowed to know — and I am now one of them. Officially inducted after one magical meal.

We had the chicken noodles and pork noodles, and let me tell you, it wasn’t just food… it was a love letter written in flavor. I legit sat there wondering whether I should clap for the chef or write a song about those noodles (I might still do both).

The chicken noodles were soft but not shy, spicy but polite — like that ex you wish you’d never left. And the pork noodles? Sweet Lord. Tender, juicy, bold… like a K-drama plot twist in your mouth.

Now here’s the kicker — we washed it all down with Asake wine (no, not the artist, though same vibes). I don’t know what kind of sorcery that wine has, but it brought the meal together like a last-born cousin bringing the whole family to the dance floor at a wedding.

Atmosphere? Chill. Staff? Super friendly. Prices? Honestly not bad for the quality. Parking? Exists (you know how Nairobi can be 😩). Perfect for date night, friend hangout, or solo therapy session with noodles.

Bottom line: If you’ve been thinking of trying Haru, this is your sign. And if you don’t like noodles… well, go anyway. The wine alone is worth writing...

Haru is a good restaurant. They boast fine Japanese food and have been around for some time now. I have no problem with the food, the setting, or the staff per se. But today while ordering sushi, a not so gentleman wearing riding boots walked in quite frazzled and immediately started listing his order to my waiter, mentioning how he's in a hurry to the airport. Without even apologizing, he just headee straight to a table to wait for his food, with his companion following.

But that's not what annoyed me. My waiter stopped helping me with my order and immediately wrote the man's order down, giving it to the chefs, telling them it was 'urgent' then coming back to me without apology.

I'm disappointed that this type of thing is still accepted and can't even be dealt with. From the man acting presumptious and entitled, to the waiter dropping all professionalism to act subservient, to me not even being able to stand up and confront the situation.

Sure enough, I ended up waiting for my take out, even after the man and his companion walked out past me finished with their meal. Haru, I don't have a problem with you wanting to take care of your customers, but please remember that you have the ability to treat all your customers fair.

In summary: if u want to do take out,...

Haru Japanese Restaurant located in the Karen neighbourhood of Nairobi has established itself as a premier destination for authentic Japanese cuisine. The restaurant is renowned for its fresh and innovative dishes including sushi, sashimi and teppanyaki. Their sushi and sashimi are standout choices, showcasing the chefs precision and the quality of their ingredients. The fish is incredibly fresh and flavours are well balanced. For those who prefer cooked options the teppanyaki dishes are both flavourful and beautifully presented. The menu is diverse offering something to everyone including vegetarian and gluten free options. I particularly enjoyed the sushi and sashimi which were perfectly executed. The service is excellent. From the moment you step in you are welcomed by friendly smiling staff. They are attention and knowledgeable always ready to offer recommendations. Overall Haru is a must visit for anyone seeking high quality Japanese cuisine. Whether you are a sushi enthusiast or trying Japanese food for the first time, Haru delivers an exceptional dining experience that leaves you eager to return. I can't wait to be back again. Such an amazing...

Sushi was very good at this restaurant!!! And the way they served was exciting! However the service disappointed us. We asked for a bottle of wine. First of all, there was no one to advise about the wine... We ordered a bottle and when they brought us a taste, we said that we don't like it, as the wine was too sour. Normally, the wine has to be replaced, otherwise why to make this ceremony with wine tasting??! It was funny to see the reaction. The waiter went for a consultation with the manager who was around, he was looking at us, then after a few minutes and just asked "Are you OK?"😂. Well, we just said, Yes, we are ok and he just left 😊. After a few minutes our waiter returned and said that wine cannot be replaced. Whatever is opened - it has to be paid. That's strange, as they basically could sell this wine by glasses without losing it. But communication itself was very polite. Just a strange feeling, so I'll give it 4 stars, as there is room for improvement.

Our family came for New Year’s Eve dinner and we had a great time. To our large table of 6 people, everyone had a different question but the staff was so kind and helpful to each of us. We were happy to hear they had a selection of soju too! My personal favorite soju was the plum flavor and my favorite dish was the stairway to heaven that had a variety of sushi options vast enough to share amongst two people. You could also request for certain dishes at different spice levels which was awesome because mine is not the same as my families 😅. The owner even came and greeted our table and blessed us with some complementary goodies! We had a wonderful experience and couldn’t stop raving about it. Whenever we come back to Kenya, we’ll definitely be coming back here again!
