Roberto's Italian Restaurant — Restaurant in ziwa La Ng'ombe ward

Roberto's Pizza is one of my favorites and I usually order a take away, as they do not have many vegan friendly options for my husband.

However, about 3 weeks ago, we called to order my usually take away pizza. This particular variety has ham and I always ask them to exclude the (ham) because I am vegetarian and replace with artichokes (this is part of the pizza). The lady taking the order responded " we don't do such replacements. And you will have to pay more if you want more artichokes." This was indeed were unwelcoming and rude.

When I went to pick the pizza, I asked her why this time was different as I always make this request. She said " everything has changed, protocols and prices have changed. Our owner has said so too."

As she handed over the pizza to me, she goes on to say " by the way, we do not have black olives, we have used green olives." Even though the black olives, in combination with other ingredients brings out the flavors of this variety of pizza.

This whole incident really made me feel unwelcome, like they were doing me a favor by selling the pizza. I told her that I wont take the pizza. Their rigidity, attitude of some staff and customer service is wanting.

I am not sure if the owner is OK with this. but I won't be ordering from them again for a very long time.

Good quality food, well cooked and at a reasonable price and cheaper than some of their direct rivals. Good service as well, pleasant, friendly and efficient. And it's always a good sign to see the owners out front and approachable (if they haven't already approached you to ask how things are). There is also a BBQ, plus they are open from 9am until late, and they've got a shop selling items from their deli, much more convenient for me than having to go all the way down to the old deli.

The new premises are excellent, the restaurant itself plus a large covered terrace, a small area with sofas, a few tables and parasols outside, the deli, car parking. And although it's right on Links Road the fact that the restaurant faces away from the road and the terrace is beyond the restaurant means you aren't aware of the traffic rushing by.

It may not be the very best food in town but at their prices the combination of the quality of the food, the efficient, friendly pleasant service and the general ambience warrants a five...

I finally visited Roberto's Original Italian Kitchen in Mombasa, and I am completely impressed! The service was top-notch – a clear 10 out of 10. The food was outstanding, every dish a delight, also a 10 out of 10. The ambiance and cleanliness were excellent, I would rate them 9.5 out of 10. I especially enjoyed spending Christmas Eve there, and the special Christmas menu was a real highlight. I was able to request the menu in advance, which I really appreciated.

A small suggestion for improvement: The "Food Royal" starter is quite large for one person and could be listed as a starter for two. The cheese platter could also be better labeled as a portion for two. And as a minor note – I missed having an Italian Grappa. But these are just small details that don't take away from the overall perfect experience.
