Panda Bakery Café is a new spot in Sapanthong with a visually impressive setup—high ceilings, large glass windows, and well-designed furniture and many well thought out finishing touches in their decor make for a pretty ambiance. It has a modern, spacious feel that stands out.

I ordered an iced cappuccino and a milk bread bun. The bread was wrapped in plastic (but later was taken out of the plastic and put on a serving dish with cultery) and the cappuccino was served in a plastic cup, which isn’t what I’d expect from a bakery of this standard, but I assume they went that route because of the self-serve/take away setup. The cappuccino was standard, nothing special. The milk bread had a buttercream filling, but it felt more like a margarine-based cream, which isn't my preference. It left that waxy, coated feeling in the mouth that margarine tends to have. Personally, I prefer bakeries that stick to real butter in their creams.

While the ambiance is nice, a lot of things feel incomplete—like the unfinished paint job on the staircase leading to the second floor. The service, however, was prompt and friendly. The staff spoke English, Chinese, and Lao, so ordering was quick and easy.

Price-wise, it’s a bit expensive for the quality of the products, but considering the atmosphere, the pricing makes sense. If they refine some details and improve their product quality, it could be a...
