Gotta believe the hype - this place is the real deal. And also it surprised us in a good way - from many of the reviews and pictures you would think this is just the usual standard Latvian pork chop place, large portions, potatoes, all that. But what we ordered - Kurland Pirate and Beef with apple were these interesting, delicious meat dishes served without sides (just salad) to distract from the taste. And for that the portions were just the right size of large. Soup, tea and milk shake were good too.
Now the place was real busy - we got lucky and got a spot right by the bar on the first try, but basically it was packed and they had like 10 reserved signs waiting for their moment. Several potential patrons kept coming back to check if a table had freed up (thankfully it's RIGHT next to the beach so you can have a nice walk while you wait). Basically take that Google busy indicator times two. As for the service - the staff were very courteous and pleasant.
Now a special tip: If it's your first time and you follow a map to get here you'll end up at some place that looks sort-of like an abandoned cafe - but just keep on going a little bit further and after that there's a gate to the right where you can see a road going all the way to the sea. This place is at the end of that road, a nice...
Read moreWhat a disappointing experience at my first restaurant visit in Jūrmala — especially given the high praise it received from family members who recommended it.
From the outset, the service was virtually nonexistent. Our starters were forgotten and only brought out after we reminded the staff. After waiting 1.5 hours for our main courses, we inquired about them and were told that the Šašliks take a long time to prepare. Fair enough — except we saw several tables, who arrived well after us and also ordered Šašliks, being served much sooner.
Nearly two hours in, we followed up again, and the food finally arrived — but only three out of four meals. One of the Šašliks was missing. We were told it would be cooked fresh, but when asked how long it would take, the staff estimated another 30 minutes.
At that point, it was incredibly frustrating. One person would have had to wait even longer and eat alone while the rest of us either ate without them or let our food go cold. After raising our concerns with the manager, we chose to leave without finishing our meals.
Overall, it was a very poor experience — long delays, lack of communication, and disorganised service. Unfortunately, this has left a lasting impression and I don’t...
Read moreOverall poor quality. Ordered garlic bread as a starter which was prepeared in around 20 minutes, the dish itself was pretty dry and soaked with oil. For the main dish which was "Ragana" with fries came about 40 minutes later after the starter... The chicken was really sour and bland. It came with about a table spoon of 3 salads, all of which were soaked in the sauce that was covering the chicken, meaning the salad was fairly sour aswell. The fries that came as a side dish felt like they were heated up in a microwave as they weren't really crispy, if anything they were simply warm and unseasoned, so more or less i could've ate cardboard for all i know. Service was pretty poor aswell, we got welcomed inside and that was pretty much where the service ended. Didn't really seem like they cared if everything was going okay. At the time when we were visiting there were maybe 4 more tables, so they weren't really all that busy either, so it's difficult to excuse the negligence of our table or extremely slow preperation of our food. Would like to note that the quality of the food is questionable, as about 30 minutes after leaving the cafeteria i felt nauseous and one of my friends nited that i seem pale. Would...
