Vilhelmīnes dzirnavas — Restaurant in Līgatne

A gem in the rough. A visit to this place far exceeded my expectations. I was merely expecting a good meal, but what I actually got served was outstanding. While the meatball soup I ordered for a starter wasn't particularly impressive, merely good, my companions ordered chanterelles in cream sauce for their main courses, and after some deliberation I followed suit. Now, a main course without any meat or fish in it isn't normally my idea of a good meal. But this was one of the greatest dishes I had this year, and, perhaps, this decade. Everything on my plate was terrific on its own merits, including the sides of baked young potatoes and fresh greens. Taken together it was just incredible. If you're in the vicinity of Līgatne, and looking for a good lunch or dinner, look no further, this is definitely the place to visit.

The place is not particularly pricey, depending on your order you should expect to spend between 15 and 30 EUR, and the serving times are pretty fast (though some dishes on the menu are specifically marked as "requiring more time to prepare, around...

THE most unpleasant experience in years. Ordered two middle-priced meals, waiting time promised was 15-20 minutes. Meals arrived after about 1 hour, althought restaurant was not full at all. The waiter girl was nice and apologized many times. However hunters sausages we ordered as second meal, were substituted with some supercheap supermarket sausages made of meat subproducts - you know the taste if you eat them once. Also was second meal very cold. Of course I sent it back and we had to share first meal, that was ok. The waiter girl was nice and apologized again many times, but the dinner was spoiled...

Nice place and very tasty food. We ordered chicken breast and french chop. Both were amazing. Portions are large. Fantastic food server, very open minded and provide info and suggest what to order, depending on your wishes. We didn't meet chef, but also amazing person.
