I decided for my birthday this year to go away, and chose to go on a mini break to Luxembourg - mainly because I hadn't been there before! The flights were extremely cheap and it only took an hour from Gatwick to Luxembourg.||||I used booking.com to select and book a 3 night stay and chose Auberge La Veranda as it was fairly cheap. On arrival we had to wait for half an hour as the reception, which was also part of the restaurant did not open till 17.30 - something I found a little strange. However the staff, whose English was quite limited were quite helpful. The room had an adequate en suite and was clean if not palatial. We were given a key to a side entrance so that we could come and go as we pleased - even when the restaurant was not open! One slight draw back is that all of the rooms are up at least one flight of stairs, which makes it tricky for anyone with a mobility problem as there is no lift.||||In total we paid 40 euros each a night which included a continental breakfast, which was quite adequate. The hotel was on a major bus route and getting into Luxembourg city was very quick and easy. We did eat in the restaurant on a couple of occasions, and although the prices were not that cheap, the food was extremely well cooked and full of flavour.||||In summary, if you are looking for a break to Luxembourg, the Auberge La Veranda hotel is a fairly cheap place to stay. Although the rooms are fairly basic the staff are very helpful and the restaurant serves very good meals with a good selection of vegetarian dishes available. Buses are frequent and cheap - 4 euros for a day pass, whereas taxis are very expensive in Luxembourg. Although I was only there for a mini break I would definitely return some time...
