Miss Ellie Tea House is a family run cafe (Chef Justin with his Mum, Nancy and wife, Shin) located in a quiet corner of Taman Melawati, right at the foot of Bukit Tabur near Zoo Negara in Kuala Lumpur. It serves Western âcomfort foodâ, sweet treats, pastries, cakes, and some delectable scones baked daily. It also has a fine selection of tea and coffee to go along with your meal. The outside is decorated with lush decorative plants, giving it a cozy feel. Once you step inside, one is captivated by the homely and warm interior. It is lavishly decorated with many personal and vintage items throughout, which gives it a very welcoming, feel; much like dining in a friendâs British cottage. The service team is warm and friendly, ever ready to make suggestions or explain their offerings. As we dined on a Sunday afternoon, around 3:00 pm, many of the crowdâs favorite cakes and pastries were already sold out. I ordered Mumâs Spaghetti Bolognaise and 2 scones, raisin and oats and Hot Chocolate Mudge. For some strange reasons, the staff packed the spaghetti with the scones that I had ordered for take-away. As a result, it was already rather âcoldâ when it was plated for me. I was not able to savor the spaghetti in its optimal state. The chocolate drink was rich and satisfying. I have to be honest that I was a bit disappointed with the scones as it has been highlighted by many as being the star of the show. Again, this could have been because it was âtaken-awayâ rather than eaten fresh! Would I come back again? Certainly so. It is a warm joint and not many cafes like this around. It is a bit far but if you are looking for a slow weekend drive and a cozy place to enjoy a good meal, this might just...
Read more9 of us visited this place for tea. We were surprised that the four kids ordered a mini lunch. They had soup, pasta and salads. They sat at a table on their own and shared the pasta and salad. The staff were attentive to their orders & needs. They separated the pasta and salad into 2 plates for sharing. They even plated the dishes as per original with lemons as garnishes etc.
The adults had their afternoon tea of coffee and pot of tea. We had 2 chocolate orange flour less cup cake. It was decadent and melted in the mouth. The passionfruit cake was refreshing and flavorful. It had a natural taste of passion fruit. The sticky date pudding was sweet and complemented by the salty white chocolate cream graced with macadamia nuts.
A cosy and charming little tea house that gives the charm of English teahouse and its offering of scones, cakes, etc. It also caters to main courses of English fares like pies, burgers, bangers & mashed, salmon, chicken parmigiana, pasta etc.
It would be an added treat if the establishment can offer beverages meeting the trends of the younger people. I know the importance of the teacups, teapots and French presses in your concept. At present, there is only French pressed coffee and cold pressed coffee. Invest in a coffee machine to include expresso, cappuccino, Americano etc.
The younger generation will not have the patience to wait 5 minutes before you press the coffee plugger into the coffee pot to make your own coffee. It would sound ridiculous and obsolete in time to come.
I must compliment the service of your staff and their job knowledge. đA delightful...
Read moreNot a lot of English tea houses in KL to choose from, so if this is your thing then Miss Ellieâs needs to be at the top of your list.
Ok, small disclaimer here, personally Iâm not a big fan of English teahouses in general. Iâd much rather be in a kopitiam or a gerai when in Malaysia. (I think my malay genes overshadowed my English genes in that regard.) That said, I still enjoyed my visit here a lot.
Tried the lasagne, scones, and the durian creme brûlée. All were very good, albeit just a tad shy of being great. The desserts in particular were better than the norm here in KL.
Saw others having bangers & mash, as well as the grilled salmon. Presentation wise, they looked great. Will try these next time.
Huge tea buff, and the selection here is lovely. So would come back for this alone to be honest, the desserts are a plus.
Very âEnglish tea houseâ decor. One personâs quaintness is another personâs kitschyness I guess (felt a bit more like the latter to hubs and I, but thatâs just a matter of personal preference and doesnât detract from the experience at all). In fact, I think a lot of locals might find it charming.
Friendly and very efficient service. We were seated close to the register, so could very clearly hear comments from staff about âwrongâ orders etc. so perhaps they might want to be a bit more discreet? Just a small suggestion.
Parking a breeze on a weekend, and the tea house is in a very lovely part of the Melawati area. Quite tranquil.
Bottom line, it was a lovely experience and would go...
