I would like to showcase the humble Midin (Bidin) wild vege in the first photo, one of my all-time favourite vegetables! This is actually a wild fern shoot that can be harvested from the wild or just along the drains besides the roads. Fried in sambal blachan or made into Umai salad, this beautiful curly and super crunchy vege has a unique texture that cannot be found anywhere else. It is very fragile and could last only 24 hours. Hence you don't find it outside Sarawak (or Borneo, as some parts of Sabah and Kalimantan should have this plant as well).
Their Mani-cai fried with egg is also one of my new favourite. Somehow, this dish is only popular only in Sarawak for now.
The fried kampong chicken served was also different from the usual farmed chicken, with a delightful firm texture.
