Restaurant C.B. Wee – Disappointing!

When I travel on business, I often rely on Google reviews. Chinese non halal pork free restaurant. With 300+ reviews averaging 4.3 stars, this place looked promising. Sadly, I was conned again.

We arrived at 11 a.m. to an empty restaurant—just us. Staff were busy prepping in the kitchen. Ordering was simple: the friendly server hands you a menu and you write down your choices. Chice if meat and how you want it prepared. So far, so good.

The Food (or lack thereof): • Deep Fried Cuttlefish: Fresh, yes. Flavor, no. Bland and forgettable. • Ha Look Prawns: Six medium prawns, fresh but soggy. Honestly, I believe I could’ve cooked them better myself. • Lemon Chicken: How anyone can butcher such a simple dish is beyond me. Starchy chicken cutlets drowned in lemon “slime.” Disgusting. • Fried Meehoon: The worst dish I’ve had in my life—period. Burnt, starchy, and painful to finish. I never waste food, but this one was a test of willpower. Lesson in life: not all 4.3 stars are created equal. • Seafood Fried Rice: First two bites seemed fine, then it fell apart—unevenly cooked, bland, prawns not at their freshest.

The Rest: • No AC, but parking is aplenty. • Bill for all the above + two iced Chinese teas: RM75. Reasonable price, unreasonable regret. • The server was the only saving grace—smiling, polite, and attentive throughout. Kudos to her.

Verdict: One of the biggest letdowns of my food-hunting life. If you value your taste buds (and sanity), skip this restaurant...

Restaurant worker was hostile asking to sit down and write down own order to check if it’s available with the kitchen (how do you not know what is available/ not available upon operating the restaurant?) instead of taking orders for customer but nevertheless ordered fried rice, veg, Tom yum, beef with chili, butter prawn and fried fish with oyster sauce and lemon chicken.

To my disappointment, the taste was very bland. Not sure how does one sell butter prawn when no butter was used but margarine. Tom yum had more of tomato flavour than actual Tom yum paste (never have seen fish balls in Tom yum), Vegetables tasted unpleasant. Lemon chicken did not have lemon flavouring to it either. And you’d think one can’t go wrong with fried rice but once again it was bland too (no chili padi was provided either) Over all, please do not have high expectations if you do decide to give it a try, after all taste is buds/ preferences varies from one individual to another.

On the positive note, the prawn and fish were fresh but the cooking style completely lack depth in flavours. I’d say you can skip this place but that’s just my personal...

This is the goto place for really reasonably priced food for people staying in Tanjong Jara Resort as it is very nearby.

Service is efficient, and normally you will write your orders on paper and pass it to the staff. However, if the crowd is lesser, manager auntie can help you out in the ordering and also give recommendations. Place is clean and for the 3 meals we had there, we have no problems. YMMV.

Food is more like home-cooked style, and in our opinion is very delicious. The seafood was quite fresh even though this was at the end of Dec during the monsoon season. Selection of hot beverages are limited, eg. chinese/herbal teas, and they have some cold canned alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Lastly before you go, it is best to check with them whether they are open for the day as they do have certain rest days. Also, free parking is available onsite. Given the size of the establishment, parking is definitely sufficient

Will go there for meals again when we go back to...

Pork-free Chinese restaurant near Tanjung Jara resort. As the only restaurant in the vicinity, it surprised us with its well-cooked dishes. The friendly waitress recommend the prawn cooked in Har Lok style. Unlike the typical Har Lok flavor with minimal visible sauce, their version had a slightly saucier consistency that was irresistibly delicious. It was addictively good, making it a standout dish. We also tried the lemon chicken, which turned out to be quite tasty. The tomyum and tofu stir-fry with vegetables were decent choices as well that satisfied our palates. The prices are reasonable, you can enjoy a fulfilling meal without breaking the bank.
