Lost my photos of this restaurant. I came with a certain degree of expectation but the three dishes we ordered were either mediocre or terrible. The beggar chicken is just some crappy version of a herbal chicken and it is not a good herbal chicken at that. Do the Malaysians think that a herbal chicken is the same thing as a beggars chicken? Putting aside the fact that it’s just a herbal chicken, it’s an extremely mediocre rendition of a herbal chicken, one of the worst I have eaten in my life. The winter melon soup is meh and bland without any natural sweetness coming through. The worst dish is the country fish, it has an unappealing fishiness to it and not in a good way. The fishiness of this so called signature dish almost made me gag, I only tried a small piece of it. I really think that most SG people who travel over to JB never had good food in their lives, how could anyone think that this restaurant...
Read moreWe were initially skeptical upon arriving at the restaurant, as only three tables were occupied. However, our doubts quickly faded once the food arrived. We ordered the beggar's chicken, steamed fish, oyster rice, winter melon soup, and stir-fried lettuce. To our surprise, the portions of the chicken, fish and rice were quite generous for the four of us.
The food exceeded our expectations, with every dish reflecting a home-cooked style, free from the artificial taste of MSG. The steamed fish was the standout, with a flavorful and appetizing sauce that we couldn’t get enough of. The winter melon soup had a pure, natural taste, allowing the ingredients to shine without the need for too much added salt or seasoning, reminiscent of our parents' cooking. The stir-fried lettuce was fresh and perfectly crunchy.
Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with the food and will definitely...
Read moreBe careful of the address of this restaurant as it had shifted to the new location but Google continues to print the old address. Should be at Impian area. Well the hype of a clay wrapped beggar chicken was so intense, expectations were marked up near the sky. However the taste was rather mediocre with dry meat and seasonings that was unable to infuse. The herbal element was as plain as it seemed, really nothing to shout about. The other pre-ordered dish, country fish, was a total flop. Without any unique theme, the fish was a dried hard paste being deep fried. Among the 'four heavenly kings' we all agreed the Oyster Rice wrapped in leaves was the clear winner although nothing really came near the claim. Winter melon soup was lacking in flavor although the presentation was nice. Come here to impress your visual sense but be prepared for a...
