I was initially drawn to this shop specialising in Laksa. Located in a quiet part of Section 3 in Bandar Baru Bangi and occupying two shop lots, I was also impressed that they chose this location and were confident enough to occupy two shop lots too.Their signature laksa here is the Northern style Assam Laksa variety. The broth is a sourish fish based broth. I noted their promise of unlimited laksa gravy refills on a banner outside the shop (for dine in customers).
Their Laksa Sarang Burung came with a fried egg in the shape of a triangular birds nest. The egg was somewhat crispy before dipping in the laksa gravy. The laksa came with thick laksa rice noodles which had a nice bite. There were shreds of cucumber, onions and salad leaves in it. The gravy had a sufficient amount of fish too. The gravy had decent spiciness and sourness with the addition of the calamari lime. However I felt it lacked a little sweetness overall. Some pineapple or sugar would have given it a more balanced taste. They do have a version with pineapple but I felt their normal version would have benefited from that sweetness as well. I did take them up on the extra topping of laksa gravy and it was actually required to moisten up the generous amount of ingredients in the bowl. Thumbs up for the free gravy top up which was much appreciated👍🏽.
We were recommended a new Fried Enoki Mushroom laksa and this came served with some crispy enoki mushrooms. The crispiness was good for textural variation if you’re not keen on the fried egg variety.
Their Cendol had frozen cendol bits which were still frozen when served. The cendol was also rather light and I also had to get a top up of gula Melaka to give it some taste. This is not something I'd order again.
The Apple Assam Boi on the other hand was overly sweet.
Overall, they serve a decent laksa but they still need to work on getting a more well rounded taste...
Read moreLocating at Kampung Sungai Tangkas, Mr. Laksa is famous for his Laksa Sarang Burung. It's my first try here after hearing so many recommendations from food bloggers, youtubers, food critics etc. His laksa do live up to the recommendations; very authentic taste with lots of punch. Strong herbs and spices aroma and tasty broth. The laksa also serve with the egg (sarang burung) which is good as well. The stall was also busy with orders coming from Grab/Food Panda/Shopee Food when I was there. So expect a bit of waiting time if you come...
