I had high hopes for this so-called heritage hawker stall that's been around for decades, but unfortunately, my experience was nothing short of disappointing.
I ordered the Lor Mee, and right off the bat, the taste felt off. The flavor was completely unbalanced, with the herbs and spices clashing rather than complementing each other. It was far from the authentic, comforting dish I was expecting—something somewhere went terribly wrong in the preparation. It’s a real shame to see a supposedly iconic spot serve something that misses the mark so badly.
As for the Hokkien Mee, it was equally disappointing. It was just a fiery, spicy mess with no trace of prawn flavor whatsoever. The dish lacked the richness you’d normally expect, and it felt like a one-dimensional, overly spicy stir-fry rather than the complex, savory dish it should’ve been.
To top it off, the roasted pork was another letdown. It was neither fresh nor crispy, and instead, the texture was chewy and unappetizing. It’s a shame to see a hawker stall with such a long history fall so short of expectations. Definitely won’t be...
Read moreI ordered 3 bowls of noodles, hk mee/hklor mee/curry mee. For a "normal" kind of noodles, all 3 of em kinda failed to deliver. The curry mee is just meh meh with a lot of spicy taste, no real whatsoever flavor feel to it. The Soo called famous hk mee? oh gosh, the first soup tasting was blasted with an extreme oily flavor. And. it's not even chili kind of oil, don't really know what it is except that it's just super oily. The supposed 🦐 flavor never managed to surface itself after half of the bowl. I don't really know but, for a shop that is supposed to be a heritage in local hawker like cuisine, I never felt any of the heritage in the flavors. It's possible that most of the reviewers who gave it a good reviews here are all here for the "extra" menu of the noodles. But for me, the basic just fails spectacularly. I guess now I know why long ago when they were still at their old shop, I never really fancy the place. 😭 But this is my 2 cents, some people might just fancy this. So, go ahead...
Read moreFamous Hokkien Prawn Noodles for more than half a century. You shouldn't miss their Hokkien Mee, one of the best in town. The noodles' prawn based soup is savory and filled with umami. And it is not very spicy. You can request for more chili's if you prefer spicy soup. They also offer other noodles, eg. Loh Mee and Hokkien Mee with various kinds of topping, such as roasted pork, pork ribs, prawn cake, loh bak etc. And you will be able to customize your own bowl of noodles with a variety of request. For drinks, I always ordered their Kaw Kaw Tiger Bite Lion ( Hor Kar Sai). It is very satisfying after taking the spicy noodle then drank the Cold Hor Kar Sai. The price is slightly higher than kopitiam, but affordable. It is worth the penny with the quality of food they offer. Parking is available outside of...
