Today, we decided to visit Big Stones Restaurant, arriving right at 11 a.m. to ensure we had plenty of time to enjoy our meal. Once seated, we placed a large order consisting of Daging Salai Berapi, Miang Pla Pau, Ikan Siakap Dua Negara, Tomyam Bangkok, Asam Pedas Tulang, Somtam Pelam, Yam Kaki, Telur Dadar, and a variety of drinks. We were excited to try the wide selection of dishes, but our patience was tested as we waited for the food to arrive.

The service was slower than we expected. Despite being only the third group to place an order, it took nearly an hour before our food was served. Even the drinks took longer than anticipated. This restaurant may not be ideal for those who are short on time or not willing to wait. However, the spacious dining area and ample parking made up for the slow service by providing a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere for customers.

When it came to the food, the experience was a mix of highs and lows. The Tomyam Bangkok was undoubtedly the highlight of the meal. Its rich and flavorful broth was truly satisfying, and we all agreed that it was worth the wait. Another standout was the Ikan Siakap Dua Negara, which combined the freshness of the fish with a perfectly balanced mango salad. This dish is a must-try for anyone visiting the restaurant.

On the other hand, some dishes were less impressive. For instance, the Daging Salai Berapi and Miang Pla Pau were only available with siakap (barramundi) today, and while the fish was decent, it was the sauces that stood out more than the dishes themselves. Unfortunately, the Asam Pedas Tulang failed to deliver. Its flavor was more reminiscent of curry than the traditional asam pedas we expected, and the meat was a bit tough. Similarly, the Yam Kaki, which is usually one of my favorite dishes, fell short. The chicken feet weren’t deboned, which made it less enjoyable to eat.

As for the drinks, they started out tasting great, but the flavor weakened as the ice melted. Despite this, the drinks were still reasonably good considering their price.

Overall, our experience at Big Stones Restaurant was a mix of satisfaction and disappointment. While certain dishes impressed us, others could have been better. Nonetheless, we managed to finish everything on our plates, and our total bill came to nearly RM350. Considering the quantity and variety of food we ordered, the price was reasonable.

In conclusion, Big Stones Restaurant is a good choice for those who appreciate a spacious and comfortable dining environment. However, the slow service might be a drawback for some. If you do plan to visit, make sure you have the time and patience to fully enjoy...

Just dine in today with my family before going back home. Had few things to say. Apologies for the lack of photo.

The food we had which is Prawn Tomyum. It is superb, with thick, spicy and sour broth with notes of prawn at the end. The prawn is also quite big an juicy, bringing umph to the tomyam overall flavor, definitely recommended.

However, we also did order 'Ikan Siakap Sweet Sour' and baby kailan and those had it's flaw.

'Ikan Siakap Sweet Sour', feels overcooked, or overfried in my terms, making it's flesh less flaky and juicy. This need to be adressed next time please.

The sauce is good though, with equally balance of sweet and sour flavor notes.

Baby Kailan should be good in my opinion, but because of service issues, it was done last minute, and because of that, the baby kailan was definitely undercooked and too salty. This need to be fix also next time.

The drinks we ordered are good and enjoyable. No complaints there.

The service though, also had flaws that we had to bring it down to 3 stars, because the cooking team at Big Stone at that time decided to focus first on cooking main course before side dish, even on peak times. Our main course arrive first on time, which is very good, but we have to wait for our baby kailan dish for a longgggg time before it finally arrives... Just as we finish eating everything on our plate clean.

Even few customers had the same experiences as we had. This need to be addressed next time for I still believe this restaurant had potential to go further than today.

The atmosphere is nice and clean, with segmented counter for order, and pick up. Facilities like Surau and toilet are available, though I did not use the toilet, so I can't comment on that. It is advisable though to bring your own portable fan.

Overall, I will still say it is good to eat at this restaurant with it's speciality on Thai food, and I hope this restaurant can be better next time so All of us can happily support...

A Culinary Adventure into Authentic Thai Delights

Nestled away in a small town of Merbok is a hidden gem that offers an authentic Thai culinary experience. I recently had the pleasure of discovering this haven and was treated to a culinary journey that left my taste buds tingling with excitement.

The standout dish, Kengsom Siakap, surpassed all expectations and stands as the best I've had in Malaysia. The Udang Masak Asam was another delight, showcasing the chef's mastery in crafting bold and flavorful Thai dishes.

The overall menu proved to be a symphony of hearty and flavorful delights, creating a whirlwind of sensations in my mouth. Each dish carried an authentic Thai essence, transporting me to the vibrant streets of Thailand.

What adds to the appeal is the reasonable pricing coupled with satisfying portion sizes. The effective food ordering system and prompt service ensured a seamless dining experience, making it clear that efficiency is a priority in this culinary haven.

While the ambience is generally great, be cautious on hot days as it can get humid, and flies may be an unwelcome companion. Installing more fans could enhance the overall comfort of the dining area.

It's not just a gastronomic delight; this restaurant also holds a responsibility towards its environment. Given its proximity to a river and jungle, it's crucial to maintain cleanliness and discourage littering. Preserving the natural surroundings adds an extra layer of charm to this already exceptional dining spot.

In conclusion, this hidden gem is well worth a visit for anyone seeking an authentic Thai experience near Sungai Petani. From the exceptional dishes to the efficient service, it's a secret worth discovering, though a plea for more fans and environmental responsibility adds a...

Came to see whats the hype tho it’s quite far from home. Glad that we came on weekday’s, there was no big crowd. We get to sit at the veranda on the cliff and enjoyed cool rainy breeze next to the waterfall. Food all taste good. No doubt regarding the thai authenticity. Price to me a bit expensive but the portion is huge. However, I dont like the self service system as it’s too tiring and a lil annoying. You have to go back and forth a few times in order to take the food and drinks at the counter to your table. They claimed they are still lacking of staffs as the place just recently launched. Also, the aftermath of this situation, most tables were not cleaned when we initially arrived. You have to ask the staffs to clean it or you just have to sit somewhere else instead of your desired table. Or if you insist, clean it yourself 😂 Overall, the atmosphere and vibe is something new and different. It’s nice to escape the busy town once a while and have a relaxing lunch here. Nice place to bring kids and family. Toilets available. Surau is still in construction if I’m not mistaken. Ample parking lots. Cards payment is not available yet. Only cash, QR and direct transfer for now. Mobile coverage is not that good here to certain telco. So kindly prepare enough cash ahead if youre expecting problems to perform online banking there.

We had Miang Pla Pau (Talapia), telur dadar udang, rice and hot latte. The fish was fresh and delicious. Comes with 3 dipping sauce and veggies. The combination of the food was great. However, one of the dipping sauce was too salty (the one with the darkest colour). My husband had it with daging salai yesterday (he went with his colleagues), it was also too salty yesterday. Everything else was great. The portion is big & can be shared with 3 people. The hot latte unfortunately wasn't good at all. It was too sweet and tasted like 3 in 1 kot. I don't know how to describe it but it definitely wasn't the usual combo of expresso & milk Repeat again at the end of August 2023. Took my grandmother & aunt from Terengganu for late lunch here. Thank you for improving the dipping sauce. This time we finished each one of the dipping sauces. I really appreciate when restaurants improve their food. We tried Miang Pla Pau ikan Siakap. The Talapia one tasted a bit better if compared. Daging Salai was good. Green tea was great. It's really nice to have a good, unique restaurant where we can take relatives to go eat. Plus nearby. Keep it up!
