Previously, my friend and I had tom yum kuey teow and sotong celup tepung (deep fried squid coated with tempura-like batter). Studying in Kelantan for five years, I kinda have a rough idea on how a bowl of good tom yum is. Here, you get it so rich and intense owing to abundant tom yum paste, cloudy which tells you sufficient coconut milk was used, generous with cuts of chicken, squid, and decent-sized prawns. Perhaps you can get fresher prawns than those but they sure were fleshy, yum!
Last night, my friends and I had white rice with a bowl of tom yum (we ordered for two, but it could feed four), siakap bakar sambal (grilled sea bass bathed with sambal paste), buttermilk prawn, and some ulam (fresh vegetables). Yep my 2nd visit here!
The sambal belacan was just as I prefer it to be - subtle belacan (dried shrimp paste), crazy hot crushed bird eye chillis instead of blended, a good balance of sweetness and saltiness. Free flow of fresh ulam and sambal belacan
Our sea bass was most probably farmed sea bass judging by the price and meat texture which might smell too fishy if not cooked correctly, but perhaps being butterflied, paired with well sautéed sambal paste, and beautiful charring made - the cook knows his stuff undoubtedly
Often cooks rush with buttermilk dishes that they end up with split cream - clotted cream in a pool of oil which is unappetising- but not here. Deep fried prawns soaked in separately made buttermilk sauce so you can appreciate layers of texture - its gentle sweetness, eaten with spicy sambal belacan - hands down, match-made in heaven
Price is medium to low. For all our dishes we were only charged RM75
Please expect to wait for a bit for your food. Personally, I am a firm believer of slow-cooked food. If you want superficial food without depth, and quick, there's always fast food...
Read moreThe price of the food was quiet expensive, just eat siakap, sayur kailan, telur dadar and sotong tepung for RM80++.If you go to other places, you could even get more variety food with more tasty taste. Here at Kak G Ikan Bakar, as the taste of the food was not tasty at all. The cleanliness of the food also was so terrible as hair was found in the food. The fish also was not fresh at all.People smoking around at the restaurant including the worker. There were "no smoking" sign, BUT the worker itself were smoking around the stall area. It was NOT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for those who wanted to eat something fresh from Langkawi as it just NOTHING. With a PRICEY price of the food, CLEANLINESS was SO BAD, I think the restaurant management should made some effort to improve this issue. I also read the other people review and i thought this restaurant was good, but it made me even more upset ! The service was okay, but when it comes to the cleanliness, we need to consider the CLEANLINESS AS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.
So who ever wanted to try at this restaurant, I think you should think twice. That was just my point of view and with my own experience. No offense, just wanted them to improve, that's it. Goodluck for future...
Read more4 August 2025, between 8.30pm to 9pm. We had dinner at this restaurant and I was a regular customer there. But today, I'm so disappointed and frustrated with their cleanliness. I wanted to take away my leftover dish. 2 big fish, and both 2 fish still left 1 side. Which means we ate half, and another half I want to take away.
I went to the counter to pay and I asked the waiter for my take away. I saw them put the plate on top of each other. I know for a fact that the plate wasn't so clean but yet they place the plate on top of my dish. I scolded the waiter and no apology from them.
I paid rm250+ for my dinner and I get this??? Is not about the money I paid, Is about the hygienic that was very bad. 2 times bad experienced on this!! so I will never go there.
Last time they even taste my leftover foods before take away. Right in front of me. That time same thing, I was at the payment counter.
The food is nice but yet their cleanliness...
