In Raub, one must be adventurous enough to explore new place to eat as there are many hidden gems yet to be discovered. Sungai Lui is one Hakka new village that has many restaurants, and How Sei Kai is currently my favourite stop for quick dinner.
As I go to Raub quite often to meet a close associate, sometimes he would bring me for dinner at his favourite restaurants and this was how I discovered How Sei Kai. A dinner hotspot for many locals as well as durian guys, tables are quickly filled up as early as they open the shutter.
◾Fried kampung chicken - who knew that simple dish like this would be so delicious? No batter, no marination - just chop and deep fried. I couldn't stop munching. ◾Curry fish - deep fried grouper (or was it snapper? 🤔) dunked into the Claypot filled with delicious savoury creamy curry. Definitely a rice puller. ◾Braised tilapia - the fish was deep-fried before braised in black bean sauce. Added chilly for that spicy touch. Please ask for smaller fish if you can't eat much. We got 1kg++ fish for 3 people ◾Braised pork belly was a favourite among everyone. I would prefer if they serve leaner part though. ◾Sizzling braised beancurd with egg and minced meat. ◾The usual plate of green to balance out the meal.
