Rustic setting with tables in a big shed-like building with fans for cooling. There are a few private rooms.
Food is very good and you can see from the crowd, despite the rustic environment, that the food is what keeps customers coming back for more.
The seafood and vegetable curry was excellent. Paired with steam rice, it's a crowd pleaser. Each mouthful made the tastebuds tingle.
The shark meat cooked in dried chilli and fermented beans was another enjoyable dish. The shark meat was tender and the dried chille and fermented bean sauce complimented the dish well.
The yam ring with mantis prawns could have done with more mantis prawns. As with most yam rings, the yam is the star. This did not disappoint as the yam was fluffy.
The homemade beancurd was soft and silky to the palate.
We loved the "kailan" and yam pieces cooked in a claypot. Surprisingly, this simple dish was tasty and kept us coming back for more.
Another enjoyable dish was the bittergourd chips in an salted eggyolk batter. If you like bittergourd, give this a try. The salted egg yolk flavouring paired well with the bitterness of the gourd. Very addictive.
Overall, come here for the food and don't expect a 5-star...
Read more1 star is given for the food pricing. The price was reasonable for seafood dining and their fresh tasty sugar cane drink. It is a must try over here. Other than that, staff who took order was very rude and was not answering to our questions and she even showed her face. Once we have paid the bill they immediately turned off the fan and air-conditioning, which was very rude. And we asked for the balance to be packed and it was done very sloppily and messy. The person just took the plastic bag over to our table and poured the food in. Seriously not going back there. It was a meaningful gathering with a family friend and the we had a sour experience. Not recommended if you want to have a quality time with...
Read moreWow! The saying where if you want good food, have it outside really stands true with Kuan Hwa with its half outdoor setting. Kuan Hwa serves a variety of dishes with a focus on seafood, freshly made with a fine balance of spices and flavouring. Note that they do not have a menu (that's how local it is).
I ordered a Chinese broccoli in yam as well as spicy prawns and both were excellently done in steaming hot fashion. My only regret was not being able to try more dishes as I only had a party of one.
Service was friendly and eager to help out. Parking is also free on-premise. Do give this a try if you pass...
