A trip off the beaten track for the missus and I to Sekinchan after all the hype and viral videos of how beautiful and wonderful rural life could be..
Sure enough, after about 90 minutes of drive from home, we soon 'discovered' how the view of life has somewhat changed to the new generations.
We were greeted by acres of dried padi fields that have been harvested and amused with many families of various racial backgrounds enjoying the scene, posing and recording selfies and videos along the roadside.
Can't help smiling to myself being a kampung boy during my primary school after being brought up in Singapore, the 'excitement' that one can imagine sloshing around in the mud when I first stepped into those quivering soft mud.. but I digress.
After a quick visit to the Paddy Museum nearby brought us to this dining establishment. Rather grand considering the surrounding area, the Seafood D'bendang, as implied by the name, stood in the midst of the bendang or padi field. It is part of a hotel complex with the immediate areas surrounding this restaurant having a playground, viewing decks and a number of family oriented entertainment where families can explore the bendang plus some family-friendly gaming activities 😀
Chinese food and mainly seafood are served and duly JAKIM Halal certified. Quiet a grand restaurant where you have your meal in the 'Marhain' (commoners) section, up to the secluded and quite private rooms for those with Kayangan Aspirations ☺️.
We came a bit early for lunch as we noticed a huge crowd all along the roads in the area as it was a long weekend during a school holidays. The few patrons soon grew into a queuing crowd outside. Phew 😄..
The missus ordered the Shellout Seafood Bucket and happily devoured most of it as I'm on a protein diet 😉 . Thoroughly enjoyed the lunch, fresh food and reasonably priced in a very comfortable and clean modern restaurant (and washroom)..
Being Halal certified is definitely a bonus and heartily recommended...
Read moreYes it’s a little far from Klang Valley approximately 70km, but in my opinion absolutely worth it. Good for a short getaway ride to Sekinchan, flavors of every dish differs. Since we had dinner, the place had lesser crowd. Staff were chill 🤩! Villa Chee is available for homestay package, for those who love to explore paddy fields. Best time to visit in September as you will enjoy an explosion...
Read moreThe restaurant is clean and with a nice ambience. Service was good with waiters ready to welcome you, collect your order and serve your needs. However the food falls short.
Ordered a single piece telur masin lobster. The lobster is fresh but the telur masin gravy falls short. It didn't take me anywhere. It feels like the lobster fresh flesh about to take you somewhere but since the gravy is quite bland, u are stuck there with mediocre taste. While chewing the tender flesh, not much hint of telur masin. Its not even masin, or spicy or anything but just mediocre flavor.
The jenahak steam on the other hand was disappointing since the fish is not fresh. I don't think they took it from the aquarium outside.
The sotong tepung was similiar to the lobster where flavor is stuck at nothing much.
The kailan ikan masin at least took me to enjoy the saltiness and strong flavor of the ikan masin while chewing on the fresh and crisp kailan.
Wouldn't recommend not come again...
