Food: 1.Aioli Olio was decent but flavor was simple and not garlic as described. 2.Chicken Burger: the burger came out quite late and felt like a sponge, meaning squishy and wet. Perhaps was a frozen burger that was undercooked but not edible.
Beverage: 1.Latte are quite sweet and come from a Keurig dispenser type machine. Not a latte with frothed milk fyi.
Service: After pointing out the burger taste and texture issue, I ordered Fried Barat with chicken and was edible if nothing special. However, the attitude of needing to fix it, not clearing the table and leaving a large number of plates and cups was unprofessional. The worst part was when I went to check out, they didn’t initially refund the burger and I found an unrelated item added to the bill.
I came to Malaysia to enjoy my time, and the scuba diving staff nearby have been great. But the food staff and general lack of professionalism is bothersome.
Tips to improve: use better quality food, train to have responsive staff who aren’t so busy playing with the local squirrels as they are the customers and take feedback from reviewers more seriously.

We visited Barat Restaurant specifically to try their BBQ station, but left feeling completely disappointed.
We were informed that the BBQ menu is primarily reserved for guests who purchased the stay package, and only the leftover portions would be available for walk-in diners. Still, we were told the BBQ starts at 7:00 PM, so we arrived on time to place our order. However, we were asked to wait until 7:30 PM as they were still preparing food for their in-house guests.
When we checked back at 7:30 PM, we were told again it wasn’t ready. By 7:55 PM, with no sign of the BBQ being available for us, we gave up and left the restaurant.
If the BBQ is meant only for in-house guests, then it should be clearly stated and restricted to them only. Don’t keep outside customers waiting with the false hope of being served. We came prepared to pay – we weren’t asking for free food.
Very disappointing, and we hope the management takes this...
Read moreThe Barat Restoran is one of the better places to eat on Perhentian, though you’ll notice the prices are a bit higher than most restaurants around. That said, the food does taste better, so you kind of get what you pay for.
If you’re here, definitely go for the BBQ – they’ve got a wider selection of seafood than anywhere else, and it’s really fresh. Just make sure you head over early because it’s super popular and tends to run out fast.
The only downside for me was the service. Some staff had trouble with English so our orders got a bit mixed up, and a few of them just hung around instead of greeting guests or handing out menus. Food = great, service =...
