Listen, I’m a woman in her prime (okay, early 60s, slightly sagging in places) and I’ve eaten questionable kebabs at 2am. But nothing prepared me for Vecchia Napoli at the Salini Resort.
Let’s talk ribs. If you enjoy gnawing on rubbery bits of pork-flavoured sadness, congratulations! You’ve found paradise. These ribs had less meat than my ankles and more sag than my boobs after three kids. Honestly, they were so fatty I could practically hear my arteries crying. (See horrifyingly accurate photo evidence.)
The pizza arrived as pale and limp as a British tourist’s legs after a week in Magaluf. It was like chewing on lukewarm Play-Doh seasoned with disappointment. Undercooked, scratchy crust—you’d get more satisfaction nibbling cardboard.
Staff struggled with the highly complex Coke vs. Coke Zero conundrum (it’s literally written ON THE CAN, my loves), bringing the wrong drink twice. Twice! How difficult is “zero”? Ironically, zero is exactly how many stars I wanted to give by that point.
And then—the smell. Oh, sweet Lord, THE SMELL. Dining here was like picnicking at the gates of a landfill. Wafts of bin juice and despair mingled delightfully with every mouthful, enhancing my regret.
My husband, who once willingly consumed a sausage roll found on the floor of a petrol station forecourt, refused to finish his meal. His exact words: “I wouldn’t feed this to the dog.” This from a man whose culinary standards bottom out at “is it edible and within reach?”
Two stars only because we escaped without a trip to A&E, and the napkins had impressive absorbency—perfect for dabbing tears of disappointment.
Unless your idea of fine dining is saggy ribs, scratchy pizza, and the scent of Eau de Rubbish Dump, steer clear. Vecchia Napoli? Vecchia NOPE-oli. Absolute travesty....
Read moreAfter a disastrous meal 2 years ago. Yes, i know it was christmas time, and yes, we were dining a la carte (1 hour for a pizza, and mine was actually forgotten), i approached another invite with trepidation. We were a table of 13, 10 adults, and three children. Seating was easy, because we booked so no waiting involved. The place was heaving with people, and it took a while to get server attention. Once that happened, she was held hostage to make sure she took our drinks order, because it's incredible how people at other tables try to get a server's attention when she's very obviously seeing to someome else. HONESTLY. all went swimmingly, except that my wife's bitter lemon morphed into a ginger ale, and my coke zero became a full fat coke. I was thirsty, so it went down the hatch anyway, while ordering a repeat while the server was still at the table. We also ordered the food right away, and considering that the place was full, 20 minutes was a relief, with all orders on the table together. More drinks ordered, and food was tasty and well cooked. I love neapolitan pizza, so it's refreshing to get them nicely done. For the reviewers on here whose gold standard is Domino's or Pizza hut, this ain't it. Neapolitan pizza is a different beast, so stay away! For me, lovely! Oh, point to note, the cashier was stunned when we left a €50 tip. A €5 tip per adult is nothing, especially when seeing that the servers are doing their job! I asked about the cashier's stunned look and she said it was the best tip they had all night. Quite bemusing really. Will go again, but will double check my order before the...
Read moreWe had a lovely meal at Vecchia Napoli during our stay at Salini resort and would recommend it to others.
There was a big menu with lots of Italian options here, as well as a really nice special cocktail of the day which was tasty too!
The menu was well priced and we thought it was good value. We just had a main course and drinks and spent less than €25 each. Vecchia Napoli is a chain restaurant and there were others we saw during our trip that were much busier (something like a Pizza Express or Zizzi back in the UK), and this one was a little quieter, presumably as it was on our resort rather than in a more public place.
The view was gorgeous from the terrace we sat on, although we could also have chosen to eat inside if we’d liked. Our friend who is coeliac/gluten free was pleased with the choices on the menu, although there was a supplement to pay for gluten free pasta.
We had a really tasty meal and would recommend it. Our only downside was that getting the bill at the end of the meal wasn’t easy as there wasn’t many staff around, although as soon as we went in and asked we could pay straight away. The staff were also very kind and we wouldn’t fault them.
I would recommend a trip to this restaurant to others visiting who want a tasty meal at...
