D-Bar We recently had the pleasure of being invited to celebrate a friend’s birthday at D-Bar in Qala, Gozo. D-Bar had been a family-run bar in Qala for a number of years until they decided to turn it into a restaurant and bar some 15 years ago. We are so glad they did! The food at this establishment is fantastic. Our party had a variety of their delectable items from the menu. Three of our group, including myself, ordered the soup of the day, a hearty barley soup. The portion is very generous for a starter, and it was delicious. Portions at D-Bar are incredibly generous. Our birthday gentleman had the sirloin steak, cooked to perfection. His wife had chicken cognac, and it was so generous that she took half of it home for lunch the next day. My wife had the penne pasta Bolognese, which I insisted on trying. It was excellent. Our other friend had eaten here many times and had the half order of BBQ ribs. He told us he always orders the ribs, but the rack is too much. I ordered pork chops and was not disappointed. Juicy and tender with boiled potatoes and fresh veggies. We all had different desserts, but the standout was the house-made Tiramisu. D-Bar is a must if you live in or are just...
Read moreNice restaurant in Il-Qala Gozo. If you prefer to sit outside, you actually are sitting directly on the street, which can be noisy and stinky at times. But you have a great view at the local church built in the traditional local limestone. On the other side of the street is a line of trees which became croweded between 7 - 8.30 pm. Thousands of birds arrive in their sleeping place. This can be really noisy, trust me.
The menu offers a fine selection of antipasti, pasta, meat, fish, and - of course - pizza. The weekly menu offers changing dishes. D-Bar has a large wine selection including Maltese wine (actually not so bad).
I have been there several times and have never been disappointed by the food. You can have the traditional rabbit - either as a rabbit sauce with pasta or braised in wine and garlic - perfectly cooked. I tried the Traglia with parmegiano, rocket saled, fennel, and polenta and it was great.
Sometimes the service is not on the fast lane and you have to be patiant to have your courses or finally the bill. But, hey, it's Malta and time is different here. All things are a bit more relaxed down here...

Natalie the manager has been here 25+ years since the opening. The food is mixed Mediterranean style and the wine list is absolutely superb. I had the rabbit in white wine sauce paired with a local Chardonnay and both were delectable.
The rabbit came with a leg, thigh, ribs and liver ( the rabbit liver was divine). The chef took the time to visit my table and I expressed my gratitude for his kitchen skills.
The waiter Michael is only 19 years old and knew his way around a wine bottle - very impressed. They were sole out of tiramisu and crème brûlée so I got the brownie with vanilla ice cream ( I know it sounds like a trashy cliche but the brownie was 5/5 ).
This restaurant survived the Covid era by being a local favorite and keeping true to their roots and upholding high standards.
I highly recommend this establishment whether you want a fine meal or throwing back a few lemoncello’s...
