Andrew’s Bar in St. George’s Bay, St. Julian’s, was more than just a local haunt — it was a cherished institution, serving patrons for an extraordinary 112 years. Established in 1909 by the original Andrew, a tailor for the British Army, the bar became a beloved gathering place for both locals and visitors, quietly woven into the cultural and social fabric of Malta.
Andrew’s Bar and Restaurant was a delightful gem that struck a fine balance between relaxed charm and exceptional service. From the moment you stepped inside, the atmosphere exuded warmth and welcome — a harmonious blend of contemporary style and timeless, understated touches that made the space feel both lively and inviting.
The menu was thoughtfully curated, offering a selection of seasonal dishes that reflected a clear commitment to quality ingredients and elegant presentation. Notable highlights included the slow-roasted lamb shoulder — rich, tender, and deeply flavourful — and the wild mushroom risotto, which was perfectly cooked and bursting with earthy complexity.
Equally impressive was the bar itself, with an extensive wine list and an imaginative cocktail menu. The staff were knowledgeable and gracious, offering attentive service without ever being intrusive, always ready with pairing recommendations or a thoughtful word about the day’s specials.
Whether you were after a cosy dinner for two, a festive celebration with friends, or simply a well-mixed drink at the end of the day, Andrew’s delivered with quiet confidence and...
Read moreHad this place recommended to me by a fella on my flight and needed somewhere near the Radisson so thought I'd give it a go. I had the Maltese set menu with rabbit spaghetti starter then bragioli for my main for 26€. When the starter came out (in no time) I thought I'd ordered it as a main, the portion was so big. But it was beautiful, pasta cooked perfectly and a nice, deep flavour to the sauce with plenty of rabbit meat. Then in the time it took to wash that plate down with a few gulps of Cisk, my main came out. Three large bragioli in a beautiful rich sauce with plenty of roast veggies and roast potatoes on the side. The whole dish was perfect for me. Cooked well and plenty of it! I couldn't fit a dessert in but the value for 3 courses was incredible. The staff were young, cheerful, engaging and very good at looking after the outside dining area. I hung around for a couple more beers and watched the world go by, happy that a random recommendation had hit the spot. I had every intention of going further into the resort on my second night but seeing a table free as I walked past was too tempting to resist. No starter this time but a perfectly cooked ribeye and a few more beers.
The setting is great other than there's a busy little road that runs out front around the bay. But you can hear the sea in between the beeping horns and that's good enough for me.
If you're in St Julian's and want great food served with a smile,...
Read moreI had one of my worst experience at a restaurant so far. First of all the waiter didnt let us finish what we wanted to say, just interrupted. Other than this, we sat down ordered our drink and food at the same time. We ordered a mojito, a negroni, hot wings and salmon. There was no mojito and the salmon was frozen so they offered us a different fish. The drinks took some time but arrived to our table in the same time. Few minutes later my unseasoned chicken wings came, wich were all in all alright. Then for the 2 thin slices of fish we waited 25 minutes. The fish was supposed to come with grilled vegetables, but instead of that we got a poorly mixed small amount of salad. When we asked the waiter how long do we have to wait for the fish, he just said "maybe 20 minutes, i dont know", then walked away. And the fish didnt have much taste either. That pretty much sums...
