Don't believe all these 5 star reviews. Okay, so this place is great for watching football and having a pint which is what I done on 3 separate occasions. The food (while not all pictured here, can't seem to find the burger shots) was pretty decent. Nothing to write home about however.
The biggest issue with this place is the absentmindedness of the staff. They're an absolute joke. The service is so slow that you'll start to wonder if you're on a hidden camera show.
On my last visit here, I literally couldn't get the bill despite asking 4 times. That's right. 4 times! I went up to the barman and he said "I'm sorry you can't pay here, you have to pay your waiter". Okay....why? You have no idea how frustrating it is when you're finished somewhere and want to leave yet the staff literally ignore you. Each time I asked for the bill they'd say "no problem sir, one minute and I'll get it for you" - then I watch as they disappear and start serving everyone else. I mean, come on.
Out of all the Hugo establishments this one frustrated...
Read moreThe waiting time was terrible, we were waiting for about an hour for our food. But we actually liked our evening in Hugo's up until the bill arrived. On the bill was a very small mistake, worth 2€, just that one of the drinks was listed with the alcoholic version instead of the virgin version. So we highlighted that small mistake to the waiter, Sumant. He kept on insisting that this was no mistake from his side, and that we have to pay the bill like that. I tried to explain to him 5 times that my girlfriend does not drink any alcohol and that it must have been the virgin drink, but he just didn't accept (2€ of discussion on a much larger bill). Sumant got really angry to the point that i and him were screaming at each other. Sumant even accused me of racism, that i am treating him like his servant, even if I did in no way ever insult him or treat him badly.
We left the place with a really bad feeling and have to give that evening a 1 star, that is really not how we like to be treated in...
Read moreThere are many establishments in this area called Hugo’s - pub, terrace, boutique hotel etc. I understand he was a local entrepreneur. Can be a bit confusing so make sure you know which one you’re heading to…
The pub is just down the road from the Intercontinental, next to Hugo’s Burger.
It’s quite large; more bar than pub in that sense. Part indoor, part out although well laid out.
Visited here one evening for dinner. Took a while to get served due to layout obstructing sight lines.
Ordered the chicken schnitzel because I wanted something relatively light and it was giant 😆 Probably three times what I expected - it was quite the surprise. Tasty though. Partner had the pasta pie. That looked good. Hearty portions.
The beer was Cisk. As it was and as it should be.
Good place to watch the comings and goings to the party district; lying on the cusp...
