I never leave a review, but this restaurant was particularly bad so I had to! Saying that, the waiting staff were pleasant, despite the service being slightly slow.
The food. THE FOOD! My gosh. It is the worst dining experience I've had in many years.
We wrongly ordered wine: this was bad, and acidic. Oh well, you take a chance. This was the South African Pinotage for reference... also not the cheapest bottle on the menu.
There were five of us. Mains were horrendous. Hardly warmed and tasted reheated - the irony! One of my party saw a microwave reheating a plate of food when they visited the washroom.
We ordered chicken thighs with mushroom sauce (avoid: reheated taste), smoked salmon salad (pros: ample smoked salmon, cons: the smoked salmon was warm), the mixed fried fish (the batter tasted off, as if it were fried in 100 day old cheap oil), sea bass (pros: fish cooked ok, cons: v greasy, veg tasted reheated), spaghetti pomodoro (fine, bar the aftermath.... More on that later). Mains came with chips and salad. The chips were the saddest state of affair on the menu: soggy, oily, undercooked, tasted of raw potato and just generally upsetting. :(
This came to an expensive ~€115: the utmost depressing meal we had in Bugibbi. 2 members of the party had "upset stomachs" the following day. A really, really, really disappointing experience, despite the view and the servers.
Hopefully the owner reads the reviews and improves the food - for the staff and...
Read moreHave many fond memories of this place. It is such a beautiful spot where you can relax and look out to sea. So it pains me to give a low score. Have been here so many times over the past 35 plus years I've lost count. Used to come here as a little girl when it was called Bognor Regis, before it got damaged in a storm and BR moved to a different site further along the coast. Subsequently have always had good food and experience at Bayside until now.
Staff really young, no problem with that in itself, but when our first waitress left mid-shift the one that took over seemed to have very little experience of taking orders, serving etc. Two or three men just standing around inside not doing anything to help.
Cisk didn't taste like Cisk. Could have been watered down even and poured with a huge head. Also why nearly €4 for a draft Cisk?! Now realise we were probably overcharged for the beers but didn't check the bill properly at the time.
Caprese salad was underwhelming - bland Mozzarella, unripe tomatoes and a watery/oily dressing, more water than oil. Spaghetti Bolognese dry and no taste. Spaghetti Pomodoro the sauce more like a tin of soup - both in colour and consistency. Salmon pasta so salty was inedible.
Unfortunately don't think I will be coming back here and nor will the people I was with who live in Malta....
Read morethe food, a disaster!!! the focaccia, it's actually toasted bread with tomato with it and a little cheese on top, I always wonder where the focaccia is. Then a dish with Maltese sausages and dried tomatoes with penne... you'll look for the sausage but on the other hand you'll find the dried tomatoes with an extremely acidic taste... not really bad but not exceptional either. The 4 seasons pizza... ha!!! the pizza... separated into four with as a topping 1/4 of the hard-boiled eggs placed on a margarita base, then 1/4 of peas, 1/4 of small sausages which are supposed to be salami and 1/4 mushrooms (don't be mistaken they will be raw). For my part, I took octopus 18 € for an octopus with a more than surprising taste but not in a good way ... barely 30 minutes after the restaurant my daughter and I were sick ... very effective to make you go to the toilet ... I will be honest, it is the worst restaurant I have ever eaten. on the other hand let's be honest the waiter is extremely kind and even if they are a little overwhelmed by the world a bill of more than 60 € which will remain...
