Caffé Royale — Restaurant in Saint Paul's Bay

Went here just for an iced latte with my partner. Having a severe nut allergy I always feel a sense of anxiety when ordering at new places. I explained to the waitress a few times that I was allergic to nuts, to which she seemed to do something on her iPad and take my order saying it was fine.

The iced lattes came out and next to it was a biscuit with a nut quite blatantly in it. Obviously seeing this I realised that the nut allergy hadn’t been noted and felt anxious to drink the coffee. My partner took the biscuit in and asked what was this in the biscuit, they non-chalantly replied hazel nut or almond. My partner explained to them again that this could kill me, and I have a nut allergy, and double checked on the coffee.

When it came to paying they explained to me that I should really tell them if I have a severe nut allergy…. Having a nut allergy for the whole 23 years I’ve been on this earth, that would have never crossed my mind… only everywhere I go I do say and I said here while ordering!! We explained that I did tell the waitress, and a face was pulled, no apologies, or explanation.

The coffee was really nice but if you have any kind of allergies I wouldn’t risk...

Lovely toasted sandwich and brandy coffee for £6.50 served with a smile and attentive service by Islam. Why one star you may ask, well this for some people is an all inclusive hotel some of whom assume that the Caffe Royale patisserie is part of the deal it is not it’s a separate entity, however if they leave without paying a supervisor has told me the waiter/waitress responsible for serving them has their pay docked for the billing amount ! Service could have been better, you would be waiting nearly 5/10mins just to have your order taken. The waiters were very cranky, especially the one in the glasses, never smiles, no patience & no manners. The older lady (I assume she’s the manager) was really sweet but only there once.
